Well.. dont know if this is good or horrible... but I put on the new filter.. kept the lid and snorkle on and did NOT change the jets. Ran perfect... didnt hestitate on WOT rode it all day.. i didnt do a plug chop.. but I did pull the plug and it wasnt white... it was black.... so.... however i think just to be safe I will change them and see if there is any change.

Well then i think you will probably be ok....i ran an aftermarket filter and no snorkel when i still had stock pipes and with stock jetting it ran great(im at sea level)...then i got my pipes and only had to go to a 270 main jet and its purrrrfect now

If you only change from the stock foam filter to a K&N and leave everything else stock, then jetting changes will not be as necesary. Maybe 1 or 2 sizes up, at the most.

BUT, if you remove the whole airbox lid, then this will require a big jetting change, even with stock pipes. Or, if you only take off the airbox lid and DO NOT change filters, this will also require a big jetting change. I had to go from 6 to 8 sizes on the mains. In my shee stock size was 200. Also I had to place the needle in the 4rth clip and the air screws half a turn in.

Final scenario: Let's say you have the new K&N in place, If you remove the snorkle from the lid, then you will have to re-jet probably 4 - 6 sizes.

Many people will argue about this, that is why I want you to test the set up that better works for your type of riding and area, then tell us what you found out.

Test you can do: Take airbox lid off and ride your shee for a short period of time, I bet it will feel heavy and will not keep pulling in the top end. Then check your plugs, I waranty they will look white because of lean jetting.

I listen and pickup info from every direction... That is why I'm confident of what I say. But you guys are right to have any kind of opinion, so I'm going to let all this controversy die here and wait for some feedback from watkins.

The main purpose of the post was to give him an idea of where to start on jetting, I think we have done that.

Finally, the number of post or a member category means nothing. Probably a rookie may know more than a HQ Legend. Here we do not debate on the number of post, we help new and old members, or chare experiences because we all have something in common ... BANSHEE's.  :bolt:

well said, knowledge comes with experience, helping others is what counts. Suggesting a 280 will not hurt anyone. At least its a rich start and work you way down..As long as the suggestion isn't lean, then damage won't occur...Although, I'd suggest a 250 main, stock pilot and adjust air screws to throttle response.. :P

I will do the airbox lid test next Thursday when I go back to the desert.

Make sure you run it wot in 6th gear for 5-10 seconds, shut it down, coast to a stop, then check the plugs..normal riding will always show black, but a wot run will change quickly..

if you get FMF Pipes and Ditch the Lid ont he air box compleatly try running a 310 main. I ran a 320 for 4 years and it was almsot perfect but a little rich. Also you will have to change the needle clip position I believe down 1 notch (3rd notch from the top)

Toomy pipes should be close too....Cause I know you ride glamis/ ocatillo area

I would suggest you finish breaking in the engine before doing WOT runs, at the end of your next trip your rings should have somewhat sealed.

Next trip is next Thursday... but like we discussed in Chat i wont touch the jetting unless I remove the lid or do my next mod, it ran good last trip.

hmph... I was reading a document that said :

Air filter

Remove snorkel:1-2 sizes larger on the mains, adjust airscrews

Remove airbox lid:1-2 sizes larger on the mains, adjust airscrews

Add foam air filter:0-2 sizes larger on the mains, adjust airscrews

Add K&N air filter:4-6 sizes larger on the mains, adjust airscrews, add one size on pilots if necessary

Add 2 into 1 Foam air filter OR dual carb-mounted foam filters (removing entire airbox, NOT in addition to removing snorkel and airbox lid above):2-4 sizes larger on mains, adjust airscrews, add one size on pilots if necessary

Add Dual K&N carb-mounted air filters (no airbox, NOT in addition to removing snorkel and airbox lid above):4-7 sizes larger on the mains, adjust airscrews, add one size on pilots if necessary

Add Outerwear:no change

Add TORS elimination kit:no change

.... So maybe 280 is correct. This will be the first time i have ever jetted so it may take me some time to figure out if its correct or not.

thatt is actually prettu helpfull. i have twin air filter and no snorkle and i run 270 with fmf. and befor on stock i ran 210 cause 200 was not it

i know this is old but 1-2 sizes means 10 point higher jet? and no airbox lit means 1-2 larger or 3-4 larrger hen stock? cause i wanna run without lit. i feel like am missing performance itts fine overal but stock airbox and i glued the filter onto the box with silcone cause i didnt trrust the stoock sustem but i have a fake k&n and plate that i need to mount. am am debating if i mount the pod filter without the lit or with. i do need ot keep airbox i ride in forest dirt etc. but i dont wanna drill holes in my airbox lit :)
