dawgfan Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 I am taking my stock 2001 head to be milled tomorrow and wondered if anyone had any last minute tips? I plan to do .030, Is this going to add to much compression for 93 octane? Should I worry about the extra comp. making my rings go out faster? They are supposed to be the original rings and pistons according to the guy I bought it from. Thanks guys......... Quote
banshee tuner Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 Go for it, I had mine done over a year ago and and have been very pleased. I had .025 taken off of mine because that is what he recmmended to keep the proper squish. I am running a stock 01 top end. Hope this helps Quote
Guest nightmare Posted February 10, 2005 Report Posted February 10, 2005 I am going to get mine done soon. Let me know how you like it. Quote

If you do run 93, have you ever tried race fuel? Notice a big difference? Quote
BdBanshee Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 If the motor is stock you should have no problems running with 91-93 Octane. Race gas would be a waste of money, only use it if you require it. Quote
banshee tuner Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 I can run 93 just fine but choose to run 110 cause it runs smoother and more more predictable. With 93 it feels like you have good power but not consistent. It was that way before the head mod but more noticeable with it. Quote
Sick Twin Posted February 11, 2005 Report Posted February 11, 2005 (edited) I have a shaved head on my 03 limitededition (had i should say). i bought it that way so not sure on how far.but it must have been pretty far because i was puly 160 psi from each cyclinder.which i do believe was the result of takeing the rod bearings out of it lol. but dont get me wrong man it did make a hell of a difference.and try the race fuel Edited February 11, 2005 by Sick Twin Quote
rjvoight Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 I had mine done a year ago to .030 and he equated it to being the same as running 19cc Domes. I ride with guys who are running cool heads and Mod Quad Heads with 19 Degree Domes and the bikes feel the same to me. RJV Quote
tschoeberl Posted February 13, 2005 Report Posted February 13, 2005 I had my head milled .030 a couple years ago. I run mostly 93 octane w/o any problems. I have a stock 2000 that is pushing 150 psi on each side at 300 ft asl. If I have the extra money, I will run 50/50 mix and it seems to run a little better. The only problem I have had so far is that I blew a head gasket last weekend riding, but nothing else so far. I feel that this is a good mod to do at a low cost. Make sure that you have your squish band recut when they shave your head. Quote
