They said it was spontaneous and that it can not be detected. I have broken a my leg and my arm and was shot I the shoulder with a .22 long rifle that hit and shattered 3 bones in my shoulder and by far this has hurt the worst feels like you are drowning real slow I almost passed out before getting to the hospital. But thanks to my wife red light running skills made it just in time.

Same thing happened to me. The medical term is Spontanious Pnuemothorax. The first time I was in the hospital for about a week and a half. That sucked. The only good part was that I was in the Army and the whole time I was off work, I still got paid. The 2nd time, I was on leave and still had 2 days left of hunting season. I knew what it was so I told my wife. She wanted to take me to the hospital, but I wouldn't let her until after I got my deer. Got my deer the next day, went home and did all the fun stuff with it, and then I told my wife she could take me to the hospital. The 2nd time I got a procidure (don't remember what they call it) were they scuff up your lung and your chest cavity and let them heel together so it is less likely to happen again Don't now if it would work for you, but you might want to ask your doctor about it. And yes, it is the most uncomfortable thing I have ever been through.

Sorry about the long post! Good luck.

DAMN!!

I thought you had to have a leak in your thorassic cavity for a lung to collapse. I'm the furthest thing from a doctor, but I figured if you were all sealed up in your chest area, and you didn't have a hole in your lung they physically could not collapse...

I learn something new everyday. :shrugani:

Tall skinny lanky type guys are generally the ones at higher risk for spontaneous pnuemo's. At least that's what the statistics show. CEJ, you can still get a hole in your lung on the inside without any punctures through the exterior chest wall. This will almost guarantee you a chest tube but not in all cases.

I had one of those too! They hurt like hell, unlike any other pain I have ever heard of or felt. (maybe child labor, or passing a kidney stone) Mine healed itself rather quickly, but I feel for you guys who have had it more then once. The pain is unbearable.....

When mine collapsed, I was in high school and had LONG hair (to my waist) When I went into the Doc, he passed it off as a "drug problem" and sent me home. I wasnt on drugs AT ALL, (never really liked them very much, always been a beer drinker). So about a week later, I had to be carried into the emergency room to go and see the VERY SAME doctor. I was white as a ghost, and the nurse brought me to x-ray before the doctor saw me because she knew of the time I was sent home. Anyone who says you can survive with one lung is full of crap, my oxygen levels were really low and I passed out before I got into x-ray. For some reason though, it healed all by itself with some meds and a couple night stay at the "Malpractice Inn and suites" LOL

Good luck to ya, I hope that you dont have to have the procedure to have it fixed. I had a buddy that had that done, and he wouldnt wish that on his worst enemy. I hear its VERY painful and has a long recovery time. (but get it done if you need it)
