rideblue_05 Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 I have a 2000 banshee with t5's, coolhead, delta force reeds, and k&n filters. I am getting ready to redo my top end for the 1st time. What is a good kit for a stock motor and where can I find some good prices. What all will I need to do the job? Any help appreciated. Quote
superchicken Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 first get the jugs off,and take to the machine shop.thell inspect them and tell you what size pistons youll need.wiseco's are a very good piston and they have a top end kit that includes every thing you need to install the jugs.just let the shop that your dealing with know that you want the complete kit Quote
rideblue_05 Posted January 10, 2005 Author Report Posted January 10, 2005 Should I get forged or cast iron pistons? What about Vito's? Quote
2002bansheeperth Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 im gunna ask a dumb question LOL wtf are jugs Quote
sredish Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Should I get forged or cast iron pistons? What about Vito's? 304335[/snapback] That's a controversial question. I typically go with good 'ol Wiseco ProLites, they're priced well, and probably the top seller by far. Vitos pistons are made by Wiseco but with different specs, and I haven't really heard anything bad about them. I wouldn't be afraid to use them. I personally would go forged as well, which the Pro Lites are and Vitos offers them. BTW, cylinders are often referred to as "jugs". Quote
rideblue_05 Posted January 10, 2005 Author Report Posted January 10, 2005 Thanks for the info, I will probably go with the Wiseco's since most ppl use them. Quote
Nightrider Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 That's a controversial question I used to swear by forged wiseco pistons, but They need alot more running clearance than cast and they rattle like crazy until they fully expand.IMO even the lightest rattle is not a good thing. Cast pistons require less warn up time, are lighter than forged and don't make half the noise forged do when there cold.Sure, they are weaker than forged but mine are still holding up well with 185psi comp. Timing, jetting and octane must be precise when running high comp on cast though. They will burn up quick if not maintained properly. If your going to go cast I recommend Vito's Quote
Tim C Posted January 10, 2005 Report Posted January 10, 2005 Cast pistons require less warn up time, are lighter than forged Stock cast pistons are not lighter then forged pistons.....I weighed my stock pistons and my Vito's SS pistons and the Vito's were a lot lighter Quote
ROOFCOCK Posted January 11, 2005 Report Posted January 11, 2005 HAD CAST AND IT SHATTERERED ONE DESTROYING MY STOCK CRANK I THEN WENT TO FORGED WHEN I PUT IN THE STROKER AND DONT HAVE AN OPINION ON THAT. BUT IT HAS TO BE BETTER THAN CAST Quote
