Rapping like a loud tapping noise. You blew the lower bearings apart either in the connecting rod or crank.....If so then you'll have to bore the cylinders and new pistons....I'd pull the head , that'll tell all....

well i just got in from the shop after 3 hours and yes it was one of the connecting rod bearings.. one piston is toast with rings siezed and that side that the bearing went, the head is all scarred up :flush: , the other piston, head ,cylinder etc. looks all set, evan the side that went the cylinder looks good, what do you guys think??? :shootself:

i know you guys don't really know with out seeing first hand but based on what i've described what do you think i will need for parts and a ROUGH estimate on cost, i'm not expecting exact parts list or exact dollar amount just looking for a ball park figure, thanks again guys..... Brian

Upper bearing or lower bearing? Upper bearing, then around 250-300. Lower bearing then add another 500 to that....

it's the lower bearing.. is there anything too difficult about spliting the cases? i need to get in there to clean out all the metal fragments and look at the crank... do you think i can salvage anything, or do i need to bore both cylinders, new top end, new head, crank and rods?

That sucks man. Just guessing but you're prolly looking at:

Crank $350 from TDR

Pistons $120

Topend gasket set $25

Threebond/Yamabond $10 for the cases

Bore cylinders $80

Case oil/antifreeze etc. $20

Used stock head $50 on fleabay

So roughly $650-ish a bit more for freight.

Yes bore both cylinders to the next oversize (hopefully that will be enough to eliminate the damage to the one side). Take this opportunity to have the crank welded, and mill the head for a little more compression. If ya got deep pockets you can go hog wild with a stroker crank, porting, mod the shift star, advance the timing, aftermarket head, etc. etc. etc.

It's not a tough job, just make sure everything is clean and take your time, good luck.

Like Benbb said, but he's is being the least cost. I'd add a couple of bills to be safe. YOu have to bore both sides the same, it'll probably take .020 to clean it up. I know, I did one.. :o I'd get a new crank, piston kit, gaskets, NOss head, +4 timing key, and shift star. Cost around $800-950 depending on head choice..thats w/ shipping and everything. I'd also go w/ Pro-x pistons. My .02, there is a lot of personal oppinions on this..
