01bansheefox Posted December 13, 2004 Report Posted December 13, 2004 I took my motor into the yamaha dealership and the guy before me used a screwdriver to get the head off so it has little knicks on the outside of the head and they claim I need a new one and want to charge me $385, Its not a stock head. Mono Block head from Pro-X- Would this be true or do you think they are just trying to get $$$? Quote
Ducman Posted December 13, 2004 Report Posted December 13, 2004 Sure doesn't sound like it to me. Did they give a reason other than the cosmetic screwdriver damage? Also, a new aftermarket head is no more than $265 including domes. Quote
01bansheefox Posted December 13, 2004 Author Report Posted December 13, 2004 Nope they just said the markes on the surface were not repairable to deep? And a new one is around 385, Im just pretty much asking with marks on the surface of the head effect the engines performace? They also told me the top end kit is $125 per piston. I dont know but some how the total was like $1250 just for a topend rebuiild with the head. Quote
banshee76179 Posted December 13, 2004 Report Posted December 13, 2004 U can find a cheaper piston kit prolly for a little bit more than the stealer..ANd as for the head NOSS HEADS DL is a member on here and he might give u a discount I know he is a lot cheaper than $385 Quote

He said it's for a ProX monoblock cylinder. Quote
01bansheefox Posted December 13, 2004 Author Report Posted December 13, 2004 Ya my engine is not stock it has a custom mono block and only 1 type of head will fit it. I use the Procross 409 big bore kit by La Sleeves. Quote
sheefreak Posted December 13, 2004 Report Posted December 13, 2004 Depends on how bad the gouges are, if you cant get a head gasket to seal it, you are screwed. Quote
01bansheefox Posted December 13, 2004 Author Report Posted December 13, 2004 well i guess its hard to tell because it doesnt use a gasket, it uses an O-ring that sits inside some grove in the cylinders. Then you just bolt the head down. Quote

Machwon Posted December 13, 2004 Report Posted December 13, 2004 How bad are the grooves? Do they go from the water jacket to the dome area to outside the cylinder? Even so I would put it back together using JB Weld, let it set for a day, and give it a try. Watch the coolant level while you do it just to be sure. Quote
FIRST BANSHEE Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 did the screw driver only damage the head... the block and head are made of the same material, I believe if the gouge doesn't go past the o-ring you should be able to sand the high spots down, if they go past the o-ring it might not seal. 01bansheefox Posted December 14, 2004 Author Report Posted December 14, 2004 Most of them are right on the outside of the head, it looks like he used it just to hit it with a hammer or something to pry it off the block, some might be right next to the o-ring if that. Just trying to avoid another $400. Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted December 14, 2004 Report Posted December 14, 2004 if they dont go beyond the oring then it shouldenet leak, if its on the outside of the head you should be fine, put it on and give her hell Quote
