I just bought a 99 banshee from a friend of mine. he rolled it, and didnt want to ride it anymore. since he rolled it, it has not been started. I tried to start it, but it refused to start. I swapped the carbs because the old ones were leaking, but still the same thing. The clutch lever is broken so i cant hold the clutch in, but i'm pretty sure that if the banshee is in neutral holding the clutch in isnt necessary. I dont really know much about these things, so any help would be awesome. Thanks

First things first...

Are you getting a spark? Take the plugs out, ensure they are seated into the spark plug wires. Take the left side, hold plugs threaded metal against the head or cyclinder (for a ground), kick it (make sure the key is on, if any, and the kill switch is set to run). See if a spark is created. A friend kicking for you may make this easier to do. Then repeat with the right.

If you get a spark, then the problem lies in he correct fuel/air mix getting to the cyclinder. You said the carbs were leaking, like out of the overflow tubes? That just means you probably have a stuck float bowl. Use a wrench a give it a couple knocks on the bowl. Does it stop? If not, take em apart, inspect and clean them. Try starting it again.

If you don't get a spark it could be a number of electrical related issues. The kill switch, the key, coil, stator, etc. If you have the headlights turned on, and kick it, do they light up a little?

I'm no mechanic, but this is the first step in troubleshooting I would do. After you determine whether it is electrical or fuel/air you can focus your efforts. If it is fuel air, and we're dealing with incorrect settings and not broken parts, so you should have it running great in an afternoon.

you better get the clutch lever fixed before you try and start it because if you dont know if its in nutral you will be in trouble. LOL

check your plugs for spark. report back with the results. use the search function. dont ask how to check that.

I checked the spark and it is good. The i swapped both carbs so there is no more leaking, How long should i have to kick the banshee before it starts, it hasnt ran in a month. And i checked to see if it was in neutral, it is.

make sure your choke tube is hooked up,are you using your choke when you try to start it.

The carbs are off a stock banshee, I'm pretty sure the choke tube is in place, if it is the 3inch tube the runs from left carb to right carb it is in place. The carbs came off a good running banshee that is run around the same area as i live in, so i am assuming the jets are the right ones.

ok, i got it running, used a little ether and alot of kicks. But it still wont idle, maybe it is just cold, i only kept it running for about a minute.

If it ran on ether but stalled when you stopped spraying, look for something plugging your fuel line, or carbs.

ether and 2 stroke not good

Ok, i figured out one of the problems, when i put the new carbs on i had to take the TORS thing off the top of them because i have a twist throttle, and it just seemed easier to do it that way, and on thebansheezone.com it says when you remove the TORS you have to adjust the idler screws. which way should i adjust tehm, and how much. thanks

You have to have your own carbs on with the idle screw installed. Then just adjust them evenly till it idles right.Give it a second after each adjustment for the change to take affect.
