2stroker Posted October 2, 2004 Report Posted October 2, 2004 I'm doing my first top end so I'm not sure what to expect. After pulling the jugs and removing the pistons, I looked into the case to inspect the crank. I noticed a little oil below the crank at the bottom of the case. There is maybe just a couple of tablespoons. Is this oil just some unburned premix that settled at the bottom? I use Mobil1 in the crankcase, and the stuff below the crank doesn't feel like its the same stuff. So is it normal to have a little premix in the crank area? Quote
frocashmoney24 Posted October 2, 2004 Report Posted October 2, 2004 theres no way it should be either. the premix shoulda burnt up, and if its tranney you must have a bad yamabond surface somewhere between the cases, wats it smell like? Quote
SandShooter Posted October 2, 2004 Report Posted October 2, 2004 I would say a little premix oil in the bottom of the case is normal. I have always seen this when I take my engines apart. This is why they smoke more when you first start them up? Quote
banshee370 Posted October 2, 2004 Report Posted October 2, 2004 I agree,,,,, a little oil in the crank area is normal.. Thats what lubes the crank/rod bearings anyways. If there was NO oil. Then I would be worried. I've split many cases and have always found some oil. I doubt the oil would look or smell like it does from the can.... Remember its been mixed in gas and sent through the engine... As long as its clean you should be fine Quote
2stroker Posted October 2, 2004 Author Report Posted October 2, 2004 The oil is a little dark which makes me think its premix. I usually use 2-R to mix with the gas. The bike can sit for months at a time. During this time, whatever oil/fuel is left in the motor probably separates and the oil settles to the bottom and doesn't burn. Thanks for the replies. I can rest a little easier now. The carbs go on tomorrow after I install the TORS eliminator kit. Quote
