:whoa: Mines an 03. When I ride at part throttle it wants to run hot. The rad boiles over. I have checked the water pump and it seems to be working ( spines freely ) . I ride in Org. I have installed TR6s. 280 main jet , needle on 4th grove , air screw 1 1/2 turns out. If I ride for a bit and let her cool its fine. If its getting lots of airflow it seems fine. Any help would be great.

Welcome to the world of Banshees.

These bikes like to be ridden fast and get air through the radiator.

 

What air filter system are you running?

 

You could get an aftermarket radiator and that would help.

I can follow my kid around on his 90 and my bike doesn't overheat.

Right on, the banshees dont like to putt around, they need air passing through.

 

Try in-line coolers???? My bike never over heated before, but i put two in-line coolers on it. Don't know if they work as good as they claim, but they are on.

from cheapest to most expensive the ultimate uhh cooling list, yeah thats right!

 

1. correct jetting $depends on how many you have to try, but check this first

2. small inline coolers $10

3. engine ice $17

4. larger inline coolers $25ish

5. billet impellar $75

6. noss/pro design cool head $265

7. bigger radiator $400

 

and i think that rounds it out. all those are prices for new parts but im sure they can be found cheaper on e-Bay.

 

if i missed anything someone tell me and ill edit the post and add it in.

I don't think cool heads actually help. Someone posted back a couple of years ago, that they had a temp gauge and when they added a cool head, it did not change the temp.

I would take that off this list.

Billet impeller won't help, it will just last longer and is more durable.

Then you are way lean with 280 mains. That is your problem

I run T5s and the toomey 2:1 air filter and run 370 mains with 30 pilots and Toomey needles on 4th clip position from the top.

I run at Glamis which is about 500' elevation.

I would jet up ASAP if I were you.

At least to 330s or so and see how it runs.

cool head do help when you keep stock compression. when you add compression thats when you get the added heat and it negates the extra cooling effect. about the impellar, if your is worn and you get a new one it WILL help. i say billet cause it will last for-ever.

You asked for inputs, I gave you some.

No one buys a cool head and leaves stock compression.

I don't even think you can get 23cc domes with a cool head.

A stock head is the same as 23cc domes.

Sounds like the radiator is the way to go. I need one myself. I get pretty close to 200 degrees riding in the woods. There are some PWR ones on Ebay new for a little over $300. Think those are as good as Toomey?

Went back and read the post. 280 sounds way too lean.

I have (had) 300's in mine, come to find out they were too lean, now i need a rebuild.

 

JET WAY UP!!! check your compression, depending on how long you have been running lean, you may have caused some damage.
