98TEAM ALBA Posted August 30, 2004 Report Posted August 30, 2004 I have been through hell and high water jetting this bike. It will run real goog until it gets warm then it runs like shit. Does anyone know what would make it run worse when it gets up to temp. Quote
ledofthezep Posted August 31, 2004 Report Posted August 31, 2004 (edited) runs like shit. Define that. example...? Edited August 31, 2004 by ledofthezep Quote
98TEAM ALBA Posted August 31, 2004 Author Report Posted August 31, 2004 It has a sputter right before it gets on the pipe. It only does this when it is hot. I was thinkin it could be overheating but, it is not blowing any coolant out. Quote
ledofthezep Posted August 31, 2004 Report Posted August 31, 2004 Even though it may not sound like a carb problem...check & make sure you're mains aren't clogged or if there's anything floating around in the bowls of your carbs. My ex's dad's shee did that a few weeks ago at the dunes, the right main was clogged. It would run good at idol, could rev it sitting, just would shit out after you got out the gate & went to take off...almost seemed like a clutch problem, turned out being a clogged jet the whole time. Just something easy to check 1st... Quote
PlaynSand Posted August 31, 2004 Report Posted August 31, 2004 You might try moving the clip on the needle up one notch and see if that helps, when I had mine jetted too rich it would run better when it was cold. Quote
98TEAM ALBA Posted September 1, 2004 Author Report Posted September 1, 2004 Does any body think this could be an overheating problem or a reed problem. It looks as though the reeds are still the stock ones? I have thought about tryin my friends 2into 1 carb and see if that helps any. Quote
Banchetta Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 Playnsand is right on. sounds like you might need to lean the needles. Go from there. Quote

I have the needles one clip leaner than stock. I am goin back to the 25 pilots tommorrow and see if that helps. I am not sure if it is real rich or not. It will sputter and sometimes give alittle pop. Quote
J.J. Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 Could be something simple like a blocked gas cap vent, causes a progressive vacuum to build up in the tank. Easy to eliminate by leaving the cap slightly loose. Quote
Wallynut Posted September 1, 2004 Report Posted September 1, 2004 Move the clip up on the needle to lean it out. Easy enough to try. What mains, needle postion, pilot jet, and air screw turns are you at now??? I can understand your frustration, have thought of going to a 2 into 1 carb setup. But if you can't get it figured out with 2, you may not be any better with one. Same principle for tuning, just simpler to deal with one carb. Quote

It has 27.5 pilot, needle one clip lean from stock and 280 mains. ari screws 1.25 turns Quote

I never really thought about that Quote
Wallynut Posted September 2, 2004 Report Posted September 2, 2004 98, Get her warmed up and try it with the lid off, if better, you will need to lean it out, if worse, you will then need to get her richer. If your running without a lid, put it on. If the hesitation is just before the power band and gets better at wide open and your plug chop is looking good, chances are you will need to mess with the needle, move the clip from one extreme then to the other, most usually need to be richer( mine needed to be leaner on the needle).
