My banshee is set up like this. I have removed my snorkel from the airbox and installed a K&N filter inside with the lid still on. I have 260 main jets and 30 piolet jets with Toomey TR6 pipes. I have a 15/40 tooth sprocket setup. I am running 18 inch Hooiser tri-trac slicks on the back and kumho 145r10 68t tires on the front. All around ITP 10" C-series wheels. I have barnett clutches with a hinson basket. I put standard weisco pistons in it. The front is lowered with aluminum bars and the back is tied down. I am currently running around a 8.40 in an 1/8 mile but I have ran an 8.25. When I get to 3/4 track it feels like my shee runs out of power and it just levels off or even dies off a little. I am running around 75 mph with this setup and around a 1.70 60ft. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to get in the 7's with a reasonably priced mod or mods.

get rid of the tri-tracks and get u some 19-8-10 american racers they should pick u up alot at the drag strip with a 1.70 60' you are losing valuable time there which is most likely due to wheel spin also u might wanna advance the timing a lil bit around 5-7 degrees or so as for it falling off on the other end that can be caused by several things alot of times high compression will cause this to happen or the bike leaning out will cause it to run a lil funny on the big end and also if its geared to tall or to short. u want the bike geared to it tops out 6th gears just as u hit the traps not a second more or a second less. or u could be gettin some clutch slippage at high rpm's which would cause it to drop off a lil bit what do your steels look like and what kinda springs are u running?? hope maybe this give u some ideas but the times you are running arent bad at all for a stock ported motor i did a lil clean up work in the exhaust(polishing) on my old motor and ruffed up the intake side a lil bit and the best i ever went was a 8.07 with fmf pipes

Where can get american racers and how much are they? And would a degree key advance the timing like you are talking about? I am running barnett steels and springs.

yea a degree key will do the same thing as a adjustable stator plate will just with the stator plate u have alot more adjustment and u dont have to remove the flywheel everytime u wanna change the timing u can get a adjustable timing plate from ricky stator pretty cheap and they seem to work good. as for the american racers u can call dynoedge racing out of michigan not sure on there number but there website is www.dynoedge.com or u can give tony smith a call at extreme sports yamaha in south carolina 803-905-7766 and he will be able to hook u up

Your on the right track, my suggestion to you>>>>

First step up to 16T Front Sprocket, 2nd take off the lid all the way and put in a 280 main and get the engine ported. You should be around 7.80s on pump fuel without an extended arm or wheelie bar. DO NOT ADD A DEGREE KEY ON A STOCK MOTOR WITH A STOCK HEAD! If someone tells you that this mod made their quad faster, then they had a poor tune up in the first place.

I am on pump fuel, with 35mm Kehien, out of frame Borrink Pipes, Ported, strutted with 18 38 gearing --40 over 350- and my best time is [email protected] this is with 1.46 60 foot times 4.13 in 330ft. Oh, and a 1 to 5 cut tranny. This is with 0 Degrees of timing. I weigh 170lbs and the quad is stock chassis. The Cut tranny dropped my time 3 tenths consistantly.

Hopes this gives you a baseline to work with!

what is your basis for saying dont advance the timing??? yes it will not bring the et down any but it helps the bike to rev more which will help out in the long run and also a stock banshee ignition retards itsself as the rpm's climb which is the main purpose in the timing advancement. and another there there is no way u run a 4.13 in 330 foot based on your 1/8mile time and 60' times man i just hate it if your really doin this then ill have to see proof of that and another thing exactly what pump are u gettin your fuel from ?? if its the one at the gas station what is the octane and what is your compression?? how long of a swing arm are you running and is it with a wheelie bar?? and also who ported your motor??

Sorry there turbo, your right, 330 ft is 4.31....not 4.13. I dont usually make mistakes like that I just need to proof read my writing.

As for the degree key...More timing advance on a lower compression engine makes the engine a little peppier on bottom but as the cylinder pressure rises on the engine as the rpms increase, less timing is needed. I actually take out 1 degree on my 350 for higher mile an hour. Dont always believe the BS hipe you read from marketing propaganda. Advancing timing on a stock stroke is a way to band aid a poorely tuned engine. I have nothing to hide on my machine either, you can look, smell, touch anything you want but it is what I say it is. Only has 145psi of cranking pressure. I have run this time and backed it up on another local track here in Houston. Dont get in a tissy, I understand that a couple of guys in Michigan that are running 2 tenths faster that me consistantly on pump fuel with the same engine setup. Not a lot talk about it though, they want you to just show up so they can take your $. Think I am going to skip the Alky and just go straight to NOS. I am just to damn lazy to purge every time I use it.

Back to the origional topic, If he puts a 6 or 8 inch arm, decent exhaust, raise compression to 130 psi" mill .032 off stock one if possible, " stock timing with Hoosier D20- 62 inch roll out sprint car tires on the rear with a 16 40 gear, his quad will run high 7s all day long with a good tune up. Provided he can pilot it. ON PUMP FUEL

I can atest to the last part of the post above. I run sprint car tires on the rear D20's, stock timing, in frame cut T3's 15/40 gearing. The other differance for me is I run a little higher compression 165 psi. But I still run consistant high 7's on 93 pump gas. With a 6 over arm wheeling like hell off the line ! I am sure that there are faster ones out there with similar set-up. But hell I trail ride the bike also ! Just my 2 cents.
