J.J. Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 I've noticed a lot of spyware protection programs on the net lately, in particular, in the BHQ Downloads section there are 3 choices: AdAware Spybot: Search & Destroy Spyware Blaster Which one is recommended or are they basically the same thing? Indubitably Posted August 1, 2004 Report Posted August 1, 2004 I run spybot and don't have any complaints. I don't know much about this shit though Quote
banshee370 Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 Spy-bot and AdAware work very well together... Either of the two work very well though. Once you dl and install Spybot I recommend you check for updates and make sure you have it block all exploits to save you from future attacks Quote

decon Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 i use ad-aware, its a pretty good program. Quote
Gargamel Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 Ad-ware for me too. Easy to use and gets alot of junk off the computer. And if you get any pop-ups at a site that says anything about downloading Gain, HIT NO!!!!!! Quote
nater006 Posted August 2, 2004 Report Posted August 2, 2004 For the *ultimate* cleaning experience... boot into safe mode and run them. Works wonders... Ad-Aware is my fav, then Spybot... Hijack-this is good, as is CW Shredder (for some stuff). Between those 4, you can kill anything. Quote
fixitrod Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 You need more than one. Adaware does mostly adware. Spybot does mostly spyware. I personally use adaware and spysweeper along with the free google toolbar that stops popups. Quote
J.J. Posted August 3, 2004 Author Report Posted August 3, 2004 Thanx for helping guys, I'm useless when it comes to this stuff... Quote
iceman Posted August 3, 2004 Report Posted August 3, 2004 (edited) I actually use nothing. I installed Windows XP Pro on my comp and I have Mozilla Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. I get NO spyware and NO popups. Firefox still doesn't work with some sites (VERY few) but it blocks all popups. I have never had a problem with spyware or ads on a computer that I installed XP Pro on. For a bunch of useful apps, games, movies, music etc www.happyhippo.net/bb/ People are always active in there. That's where I get all my stuff because I can't afford to buy it. Edited August 3, 2004 by iceman Quote
