wesw Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 some friends and i were talking, after going to little sahara we were like we need to go some else. some one said their are some in southern colo. anyone know where, what they are like, and what elevation. all that Quote
ranshee Posted April 10, 2004 Report Posted April 10, 2004 Im prolly not right, but I think they are calleed the killpecker dunes. Do a search on the net and find out. Quote
Travis's Banshee Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 Killpecker is up north of Rock Springs Wy. There are some dunes at Beaver State Park in the panhandle of Ok. About 350-400 acres. It 100 miles west of LS. Quote
roosthrower Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 (edited) there are some dunes in southern colorado, but they aren't rideable. they should open up the grand national sand monument to atv's and buggies. that place would make for some kick ass duning. it is much bigger than little sahara. I was depressed when I saw the dunes and learned that they weren't open to atv's. there are some of the finest dunes in the country and they are wasted on people that barley get into the sand. Cotton eyed Joe Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 Ask RZColoBanshee, or WyoDuner. They have ridden there I think. My buddy has too, but I can't remember where they are at. From what I have heard its kind of foresty, and there are some trails there too. Quote
00BANSHEE Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 Check out WyoDuner's website. One of the best. Dune Review Quote
rzcolobanshee Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 The only rideable dunes are in northern central colorado near walden. It would be awesome if the great sand dunes were open to us. It would be the place to be. I think it used to be open, but so many people got lost and died out there that they closed it....may be urban legend though Quote
wpzone63 Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 we had heard rumors that you could ride part of the Great Sand Dunes a couple years ago, that was on public land. Took trip down there and never could find any public land. Most of the park is surrounded by a government bison ranch, never saw any bison either. Quote

wesw Posted April 14, 2004 Author Report Posted April 14, 2004 besides waynoka is there any dunes around ks or the area. i know az has some but that is a long drive. surely somewhere got something cool. Quote
wpzone63 Posted April 16, 2004 Report Posted April 16, 2004 beaver dunes in Beaver Oklahoma. Walden, in N. Central Colorado, pretty small though. Rock Springs Wyoming has some pretty good sized dunes. Not much around you though. Quote
Sanddunejunkie Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 Beaver Sand Dunes at Beaver Ok are the only other CLOSE dunes I know of that is where I ride most of the time. A great place to ride, hard climbs (short but steep) and good trails, dosent take long to see it all though. There is some sand riding to do on the Canadian river south of Dumas Tx. I have never been there but I have been told that it is O.K. Walden and Little Sahara UT Riding areas are the only other fairly close riding areas I know of for sand. Someone pleas correct e If I am wrong Quote
