banshdog Posted April 4, 2004 Report Posted April 4, 2004 was pulling some big wheelies in 2nd gear, and went up to high. slammed back on the grab bar. anyways i bent the light, grab bar and the back of the frame. the light i bent back, ill get a new grab bar, but i dont know about the frame. the two bars that come out the back and connect the frame grab bar and silencers are tweaked a lil bit. it needs to be straightened because when the grab bar is connected it pushes the fenders up. any suggestions on straightening them? should i heat the frame and then bend it? any ideas or experience will be helpful. thanks Quote
ranshee Posted April 4, 2004 Report Posted April 4, 2004 Hence the name ranshee. I did that to mine and it looked like a raptor with the fenders all bent up so we called it the ranshee. Just take the plastics and stuff off to get to the frame. Take some torches and heat it up. Put a piece of wood across the two bars and bang it back till its straight. Let it cool natrually and when its cool just paint it with a matching paint. Quote
ranshee Posted April 4, 2004 Report Posted April 4, 2004 Oh yea, dont wheelie that high anymore. Its gonna be weaker now that you have bent it back. Quote
Holyman Posted April 4, 2004 Report Posted April 4, 2004 Don't bother heating it. The frame is made of an alloy that doesn't respond well to heat and it will soften it. Get a big hammer and wail on it til it gets good enough or take it to a shop and refab the rails sticking out for the grab bar. Heating it is a complete waist of time. Quote
banshdog Posted April 4, 2004 Author Report Posted April 4, 2004 if i dont heat it, but bang it back into place, it will still be weakened wont it? Quote
Holyman Posted April 4, 2004 Report Posted April 4, 2004 exactly. it's going to be weak either way. if you kinked it bad enough to cause it to tear then heating it isn't going to save it. all heating it is going to do is take more time {you have to pull all the plastics and wiring} and you'll still have a weak frame but now it will have a larger weak area from the heat and you'll have all the paint burned off. Put the grab bar back on and get out a big plastic hammer or an old wooden bat or a 4x4 and have at it. your bike is never gonna be the same anyway. Quote
banshdog Posted April 4, 2004 Author Report Posted April 4, 2004 thats what i thought, no matter what i do, it will be weak. the frame didnt kink or tear, just bent enough to make my fenders stick up. if it is going to be weak either way i think i might just cut some steel, and make a bracket for the rear bolts on the grab bar. just to put everything back in the right place. reas11 Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 don't bang anything use a pipe and bend that fucker back .. banging it will just be harder to get it to where it has to go .. if u use a pipe u can do it slow and steady. just put the pipe over the end of the frame and bend it to where it has to go .. banshdog Posted April 5, 2004 Author Report Posted April 5, 2004 Thats what i ended up doin reas. got everything back into place. the grab bar is still popin a woody off the back, but ill replace that. Quote
BrokeStonedBiker Posted April 5, 2004 Report Posted April 5, 2004 mine was tweeked the same way when i got mine. what i did was i had a rear skid plate on there so i cut a 2x4 put it through the swing arm and rested on the skid plate so the bike dont left in the air. the 2x4 was like 5 feet long then i put a peaice of metal on top of the 2x4 so when you put your comalong on it, it wont just rip right through the wood. nice easy did it. looks good its just a little chipped paint where it bent that i got to touch up. easiest way i thought of. oh i took the cdi off so the 2x4 didnt hit it. but you already got it fixed soo. just another tip Quote
