Hey, I just got my head milled and my flywheel lightened.. I know there are certain guidelines to follow when putting the head on, correct me if I'm wrong but go in order on the bolts, and 21 ft/lbs of torque??

As for the flywheel, I know it was an absolute b**** to get it off, so is there anything special I have to do when putting it on?? I tightened the bolt on it to the best of my ability (using 1 hand to hold the flywheel and 1 to tighten) and if i remove the bolt I can pull the flywheel off by hand..? Didnt think that would be possible because you need a tool to break the magnetic bond, so is there something I'm doing wrong?

Thats pretty much it, but if you have any tips for me they are welcome.

Also do I need to change jetting for the .020 milled head?? My quads mods are listed in my sig. below, tell me if I need to change the jets.

Oh one last thing, when I removed the head it seemed like there was a felt gasket on there or something that had fuzz on it? (maybe just grown on there) but do I need to scrape it off or anything? I bought a new gasket to put on and dont want that crap on there unless it NEEDS to be..

Wish me luck, I will get some pics today of her, hopefully the sun will poke out!

yea they need to be torqued properly, but as for order i dont think it matters. ive never gone in any specific order when putting on any head and ive never had any problems. actually i dont ever torque anything either, i just tighten them to what iu feel is best. i torqued my cr500 banshee's head one time to manufacturers specs and it leaked all the way around. so i just torque at my own discression.

there is a puller that you use to take it off. itll come right off with the puller. you can buy them for 12 bucks at the dealership. id use an impact to tighten that down. dont trust your strength with it comes to that.

yes scrape it off. you want the surface to be very clean so you get a good seal with your new gasket.

The stud holes are numbered on top of a STOCK head..just follow in sequence using 5 lbs incraments to avoid warping and stabilize the tourqe at half torque and full torque. It's not exactly what the book says but it works.

impact that flywheel on. There is no magnetic force that holds the flywheel on its the fit of the tapper that keeps it tight when your trying to pull it off.

Some people keep tighting the puller till it comes off I just get a little pressure on it and tape the end of the puller with a hammer come right off

damnit...thats not what I wanted to hear.. I dont have an impact wrench. The reason it was a bitch to get off was because I dont have an impact wrench, and considered buying one... WHICH I am going to do eventually, just dont have the cash.. This whole project is making me mad, I want to ride and it seems like everytime I get a full day to work on it I spend 3/4 of the time just trying to get all the S*** I need to fix it!!

ok relax now its justb a shee.

The real way to do it is without an impact but then youn need the tool to hold the flywheel.

I have seen at sears you can get that new rubber wrench tool and wrap that around the flywhell then tourque it to the spech.

One more thing you should probably get some tools because its a shee and it wont be the last time you take this flywheel off.

Last resort if I was in a pinch would be to have someone else hold the flywheel with two hands and hit your ratchet handle with a hammer. IT will work just like a impact.

Oh trust me, I've got plenty o'tools...

Since I started working on my shee (last year) I've probably spent close to $300 in tools alone. Thats not easy when your making $6/hour and going to school so you can only work 20 hours a week..

I have the flywheel puller if thats the tool you are talking about, and the way that I got the flywheel nut off before was by taking a large pipe wrench and putting at on that circular piece of the flywheel (not the important part) and then putting another wrench with a 2 foot torque arm and pushing on each.. That was tough, but I sure wish I had an impact wrench.. Maybe someone on here will donate one to my sanity fund..

I would love to come to your house and have you fix it up then go riding.. Give me directions....I will be there in i think.... 35 hours?

I live in saginaw michigan...anyone live there? i want to go riding this saturday and need someone else to go with!

is your problem that your crank keeps spinning that you cant get the flywheel nut tight? A good foot on the rear brake pedal and having it in gear can help that problem.

Havent taken a flywheel off yet.....not sure what your getting at.

Its tempting...very tempting, as for the flywheel nut, I am just gonna throw it on the trailer and drive to my friends house, he has an impact wrench.. Any idea how much it needs to be tightened? (ft/lbs)..?

I have a manual, but its on the computer and isnt easy to find the shit youw ant to find...Anyone with the CD-rom manual knows what im talking about.. :flush:
