Shock rebuild yes or no?

I have a 97 shee....and if I have to ride my buddies cadillac...I mean Raptor....one more time before I do something about it....Im gonna shoot him.

I need some good suspension, but I dont have a thousand bucks.

Trust me, I would love a nice set of new arms and shocks all around...but for now....Im thinking about a rebuild.

Has anyone done it themselves? or know about what it would cost to get all three done? or for that matter, know anyone on here that does it?

thanks for the help guys.

I had my rear shock re-valved by a guy who goes by the name of DUNEDEMON on these forums. It is a huge improvement and would highly recommend his work. I am not sure if you can rebuild your front shocks (if they are stock), and even if you can I'm not sure if it would be worth you while. It would probably save you time and money to just flush 'em down the :flush: ...j/k

So you might want to shoot him a PM or something,

I have all stock shocks.....

I figured I could have them rebuilt at less cost than buying new ones....

But what does that exactly mean...rebuild.

One of you is talking about re-valveing, and the other re-springin....

can someone clarify a "rebuild" for me?

I guess I would first have to know what's inside....

I just want my handlebars to stop hitting me in the head....lol.

Maybe a used set off ebay would be a brighter idear....hmmm

knight_ripper, first off I don't know if the OEM front are re-valveable / re-buildable. The rear is. Often times when a re-valve is being done the spring(s) are replaced too, they are seperate processes. The OEM front spring is a special progressive spring I don't know of any direct replacements for them. The rear spring is replaceable, needs to be done if a swing arm length change has been made, of if the rider is of greater weight than what the bike was originally designed / set up for. If you need a new replacement rear spring I offer those to members for $50 plus shipping, and they are available in several rates.

my friend did his dirt bike rear shock at work,, it was pretty easy... filling with nitrogen was the tricky part, the guage wasnt the greatest....

Fronts are NOT rebuildable at all. The rear on other hand is completely rebuildable. At a good shop you can get the rear redone for around $65-75.

I got my rear shock rebuilt to Elka Specs (Dual Rate). That costed me $275 for local shop to do it or if you want Elka to do it, it is $375.

Hope this helps.

Oh one last place you could check out is Derisi racing. He does a great job and is really friendly.

DUNEDEMON, do you have replacement/heavier springs for YFZ450 front shocks? Is there such a thing?

Yes there is such a thing, but it requires some collars to locate the springs together. You best bet wold be to contact Todd Davis at TCS (951) 245-7484 he has the kits all sorted out with a few options too.
