ruff_rida69 Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 I need to know how to test a stator, I know its not a stock stator because it has 18 Lighting and spark posts on it, I'm not getting any spark and I had my coil tested at a dealer and he said it was good, so I know its gotta be the stator or the CDI because I have checked the whole wiring harness and the grounds, and the coil, and I heard that you cannot test a CDI so I just wanna make sure its the CDI before I buy another, and I have a pocket tester Quote
BenBB Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 At the four-wire connector coming from the stator, test with an ohmmeter: Charging coil should be 13.7-20.5 Ohms (red to green wire) Pick up coil should be 94-140 Ohms (white/red to white/green wire) Lighting coil should be .26-.38 Ohms (black to yellow wire) If that all checks out, make sure you have the right gap between the pickup coil and the flywheel magnets. If your wiring harness is intact (not rubbed against the frame anywhere and grounded out) and all the connectors are tight, only thing that's left is the CDI and the only way to test it is to swap in a known working one. Good luck. Quote
ruff_rida69 Posted February 20, 2004 Author Report Posted February 20, 2004 ok thanks alot man, I'll go test it and see what it says. Quote
fkonieczny Posted February 20, 2004 Report Posted February 20, 2004 What should the gap be between the flywheel magnets and the pickup coil? Quote
ruff_rida69 Posted February 20, 2004 Author Report Posted February 20, 2004 well to my understanding my stator is good, but do you know why my stator has 18 post? was it something they did in 88' and then changed? Thanks, Jonathan Quote
