banshee04le Posted February 10, 2004 Report Posted February 10, 2004 My tax return that is. I'm dropping it on some suspension upgrades and was really hoping you guy's could help me out. I called Janssen Racing today and can get thier +2 +1 rec arms w/Elka dual rate comp. adj. zero preload w/piggyback rezzy's and line kit for $1175. These arms are carbon steel but Shawn (the guy I talked to) said they are 5 times stronger than the stock arms. The price would be $1450 to upgrade to the 4130 chromemoly arms with heim joints (the rec arms have ball joints). Is it worth the extra cost...which could buy me some v-force's or something? Is +3 better than +2? Any other info would be great. Know where I could find a better deal? Thanks. Quote

Thanks. that sounds like a good deal, you will really dig those shocks.......i think as far as the extra strength arms, think about having unbendable arms, there attached to a frame that will bend instead, arms are cheaper than a frame......i have a buddy with real nice chrome lsr's and a bent frame, who bags on the light jd performance arms i put on my mx bike, but my frames pristine and his is bent to shit up front.... banshee04le Posted February 11, 2004 Author Report Posted February 11, 2004 Thanks Deuce. Yeah, I'd rather bend an arm then my frame. How did you specify your shocks to be set-up. Riding style I guess is what I'm asking. I ride a little bit of everything and don't know what to tell them. I can't decide whether I should get the Janssen arms or the Quicksand arms. Anyone have any opinions? Quote

Anyone have any opinions? man thats i hard choice both of those arms are killer, but since gary at quicksand has the best service you'll find, hed get my money, but damm janssen makes a gullwing arm thats the shit.....i told eric at elka(and i went straight to them i didnt want a middle man screwing up my order) that i race mx, open desert and like to long jump, but the desert and jumping was my play time, so the track was my main concern and he understood the california desert tracks are very brutal, eric said i would loose some comfort for control over high speed off camber terrain, but would include a few different progresive spring gages and rates of both my primary and secondary spring stages.... in a nutshell i have softer and stiffer upper and lower springs for my doubles, that i can interchange as needed for track or terrain conditions, i had to have the SSD's (self sagging design) for my lowered ride height and to favor the rebound when valving.....i think for all around riding, i would give them your correct weight, most spring gages break at 40 pound incriments.....but maybe try to view it as how fast your riding style is, high speed open riding, requires a different set up then winding trail riding, at high speeds you want a shock that wont throw you off the bike, and for trails you want some plushness and sag for climbing and navigateing over weird terrains.....i figured for almost a grand for just fronts and another 800 for the rear a little cash for extra springs would be a good investment.....the elkas interchange easy.....the works shocks are a pain in the ass to change springs on, if you ride a bit of everthing at high speed tell them that, if you like to putt comfortably and climb alot get a little softer setup, my bike i can feel the little bumps more than the other guy, but as the bumps get bigger and deeper they feel like little bumps to me and the guy with the softer setup feels like he's hitting brick walls and has to back off the juice, so its a choice only you can make for your needs......i hope i helped you decied what you need......let us know what you end up with... Meat Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 I say pony up for the 4130 chromemoly arms. Janssen Racing has been a long time forum sponsor here, but I havent seen thier banner ad in quite awhile. JANSSEN 4130 MX TECH ARMS Quote
dunin Posted February 11, 2004 Report Posted February 11, 2004 I have the same a-arm and shock set-up as meat. Everything turned out really good. I love the way my bike handles now. Quote
banshee04le Posted February 12, 2004 Author Report Posted February 12, 2004 Thanks guys. Duece, that is just what I needed to hear man. Now I feel confident that I will get the shock setup that is right for me. I think I will give Eric a call also and tell him that my major concern is high speed stability on off-camber terrain. I'm always slamming into the rough shit going too fast. But I've gotten pretty good at holding on! Can't wait to slam through that shit with the Elkas! Hey Meat, Shawn at Janssen sounded like he was steering me towards the powdercoating, and away from the chrome which is what I want. He said that it would probably start flaking off...wtf? Also, is there any dis-advantage to +3, other than being tighter through narrow trails? Are your arms chrome, dunin? If so, how long have you had yours and how is the chrome holding up? Thanks guys. pimp559 Posted February 13, 2004 Report Posted February 13, 2004 Action racing has 2+1up for 375.00 with life time warranty. Add to that a set of yzf450 shocks with rezzys for 200.00 that are totally adjustable and rebuildable and save a shit load of $ to put into the bike somewhere else like more power. My 2 cents. Quote
Leadfoot350 Posted February 14, 2004 Report Posted February 14, 2004 I think that +3 arms make the front too wide for mx racing by the rule books. Quote
