Otis Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 I need to get a whip and was wondering what to look for, and what to stay away from. As far as flags go, can i use pretty much whatever, or is there a certin color (colors) that i have to stick with? and lastly, what are you guys using to attach it to the bike? regular nut and bolt or some kind of "quck release"? evil Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 to mount it your going to need a whip mount, they range anywhere fron 5 bucks up to i think i seen one for like 70 bucks. you can get the quick release one also. most whips come with a pole, flag, and mount and range from 15 bucke complete to whatever godly amount you want to spend on it. if you know where your going, check it out on the web. they usually have regulations on how high the flag needs to be. i personally dont have a badass flag and mount, just a 15 dollar cheap o from cycle gear, the flag is orange and it keeps me legal so thats all that matters. you can go custom and have a personal flag made if you like, just like the banshee, the possibilities are endless. Blue Duece Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 otis go to dumonts website you can read all the rules there.......heres my desert flag Quote
Dextreme Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 Otis, when you buy a flag, it will come with a mounting bolt/nut. I highly recommend getting a steel whip. Fiberglass ones are half the cost, but break everytime you rollover....hence, back to the toolbox ya go. Quote
kenr74 Posted February 5, 2004 Report Posted February 5, 2004 You can't see mine very well but it works great. I went to Radio Shack and bought a CB whip that's 10' and the spring to go with it. It cost about $20 but it will never break and it sticks WAY up in the air. Quote
Wassup350 Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 LMFAO one time me and my friends were watching a sandwizards video and they were drag racing and my friend asked "what are those birds doing chasing the fourwheelers?" it was so funny!!!! we were watching it in class so the who class started laughing. Otis Posted February 6, 2004 Author Report Posted February 6, 2004 Yeah I'm going to keep it simple (for now at least). That 3 day weekend is right around the corner and don't wanna end up not being able to ride because of something simple like this...(first time to the dunes, can ya tell... ) Once again thanks for the info guys! I sure am glad your not charging me. I'd have to get a 2nd job, or sell the bike....all the questions i've been asking.... Duece nice whip/tapper...that thing pull double duty?!!!.. Quote
Blue Duece Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 Duece nice whip/tapper...that thing pull double duty?!!!.. hehehe thanks otis, when i go to the dunes i have a orange whip cost about 15 bucks just a cheap legal flag.......but riding around the house i run my bud flag just to get laffs from my buddies, but for serious riding i take it off, id hate to get impaled by my bud tapp....i just thought youd get a kick out of it....have fun at dumont its a fun ride and the desert stuff is way less rocky than vegas.... i tried to ride pahrump once damm was it cut up, even tried jean it sucks ass well...ill bet your local riding is ok though......... Otis Posted February 6, 2004 Author Report Posted February 6, 2004 ill bet your local riding is ok though......... Yeah it's alright....We usually ride just outside of town, up by the Air Force base. A little place called Apex (some call it Nellis dunes, after the AF base). It's not all that big in the first place, then you add the 4X4's and people that go horse back riding out there...Kinda makes for close quarters...but it's a place to ride..... Anybody ever mention how addicting this site is??!!!!! Quote

Cotton eyed Joe Posted February 6, 2004 Report Posted February 6, 2004 i tried to ride pahrump once damm was it cut up, even tried jean it sucks ass well...ill bet your local riding is ok though......... That shit out in Pahrump looks like it would get dusty in a hurry, and mucky if it ever thought of raining out there. And the women are nasty. Quote
Otis Posted February 7, 2004 Author Report Posted February 7, 2004 Yeah that's it. They say there's supposed to be a trail that goes from the lake over to Apex, but i havn't checked it out. Maybe one day i'll pick up a GPS and strap on an extra gas can and check it out. And the women are nasty [pucker face] you can say that again [/pucker face]...... Oh by the way, I picked up a cheap (8 bucks) whip from Cycle Gear today. It was that or 45 bucks for one that had flames on the flag and a cute little blue light on the top run off a 9v battery.... It's no Bud tapper, but it'll do for now... Quote
ikikazz Posted February 10, 2004 Report Posted February 10, 2004 apex sucks on quads but dirt bikes it is fun as hell the best place for a quad in las vegas is the garage then in the truck to go to the dunes imop Quote
Justintoxicated Posted February 10, 2004 Report Posted February 10, 2004 I heard the quick releases suck ont he steel whips, can anyone verify...I don;t want to spend $100 on a steel whip, but im tired of screwing with the non wuick relese mounts because the flag always breaks off right at the mount and you need a vice or else alot of patience to get it off. Dune Ratt Posted February 10, 2004 Report Posted February 10, 2004 I picked up a QR whip mount from Cascade Inovations for like $30. They have ones that will work with the rip rod flags that are a little bit thicker. This way the flag does not whip around as bad and will not hit you in the back of the head. Quote
