jasonsb Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 A local Yamaha shop gave me a stock carb slide and needle because I had lost one when I stored my carbs last year. Now, I'm putting the stock carbs back on and I noticed that one of the needles is "way longer" than the other. Is it possible that the needle given to me was a "Toomey needle" or aftermarket? Can I use different length needles without problems? (The longer needle is skinnier at the bottom) Quote
kenr74 Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 Are you sure they are different needles and not just on different clip settings? Quote
spoin39 Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Toomey needles are longer than stock, I think it keeps it from coming all the way out of the hole so less chance of it sticking at Wide Open Throttle. Quote
blk02banshee Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 Both needles need to be the same. Quote
jasonsb Posted January 10, 2004 Author Report Posted January 10, 2004 Well, I guess if one needle is longer...I have to get a matching set. Does anyone know where to buy (1) toomey needle? (I doubt it!!) The stock fuckers cost a shit load! Does anyone have an extra stock needle so I can match my stock one? Quote
spoin39 Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 I still have my stock ones if you are interested but you can go to toomey.com and order them I'm sure. Quote

mattmans1983 Posted January 26, 2004 Report Posted January 26, 2004 did you not listen to KenR74. Check the clip positions. And what makes you think they're toomey? Quote
jasonsb Posted January 26, 2004 Author Report Posted January 26, 2004 "Spoin39" was cool enough to send me his stock needles. I did check the needle clip position. I took the needles completely off and compared the two. One was thinner and way longer. I don't know if the longer one was Toomey...but it was definitely longer and it was working fine on the quad it was taken off of. Quote
