Hiram Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 I just got a pro-flow with the foam filter and was wondering how is everyone that uses a set up like this run it? It comes with a primary filter and a secondary/wrap filter, do you use both or just the primary and if you use both should you only oil the secondary/wrap? Quote
spoin39 Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 Oil both and use both. Don't go nuts on the oiling, I dip mine in a no-toil bucket of oil, wring them out as good as I can and let sit a few days. I always have a spare kept clean. Quote
mrmatt Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 I use both filters with an outerwear. But I only oil the inner filter. I can usually get by with only washing the outer filter with soap and water about three times before I need to clean the inner. Most of the dirt doesn't make it to the inner filter. The problem with running both filters is that it completely fills the air box except for a small area at the back of the box. I had to actually compress the filter to put the lid back on. I figured this wasn't helping my air flow any, so I jetted up and don't use the lid anymore. Quote
blk02banshee Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 I don't even use the outer filter It would'nt fit in the airbox. It's been 2 years, and never had a problem. I use Maxima FAB-1 filter oil, and all the dirt sticks to the outside, and does'nt even make it through any of the filter fibers. Quote
Hiram Posted January 9, 2004 Author Report Posted January 9, 2004 What do you think of if I do this, I will clean the intake boots and run it with just the outerwear with oil and after a good ride check the boots and see if any dirt is getting by. Quote
juldan1 Posted January 9, 2004 Report Posted January 9, 2004 well I aint no expert and I surely aint no pro mechanic, but from experience "YOU DONT WANT ANY DIRT OR SAND IN THOSE BOOTS" cause if there is then it got into your engine and did some damage if not alot. You may not notice it but there will be premature wear. Run both of the filters if anything get rid of the lid or cut the lid. Its double walled on the top. I cut the bottom of the lid, put some vents in that sucker and hold on. I got the vents with a kit that I bought from toomey, but I have seen them at my local dealer Quote
spoin39 Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 If you go with the lid like julden said, put at least 10-12 in there and it will run like a RAPED APE! Quote
psd1 Posted January 10, 2004 Report Posted January 10, 2004 I run the Uni with both oiled and an outerwear! I had the 1 inch uni vents but they were a pain. I now have a large hole on the lid and the back of the box that I covered with outerwear material that I put velcro on. It has a side benefit too! If the weather gets a little cool I can just pull off a part of the outerwear instead of rejetting! Quote
