WickedBanshee Posted December 29, 2003 Report Posted December 29, 2003 im getting my shee motor done as we speak and its getting full drag port and all that good stuff. right before i sent it in my bro rode it and it locked up on him. thought it might of caught a ring or something to do w/ the piston. turns out the crank split. its a 2002 model. and all i had done to it was cpi inframes, k&n clamp ons on stock carbs, timing +4, jetted, ported reed cages and a 13 tooth up front w/ 10 paddle haulers. my builder said he has never seen a stock motor split the crank and that it must of been puttin out some good horsepower. its ok cause im gettin it trued and welded anyway so it happened at the right time. my friend's gettin his done too and his is an 03 and he had it like 6 months and our builder said his crank was about to go to w/in a couple more rides. our piped shees smack the hell outta all the others around and we ride em hard but has anyone else had this happen to their shees w/o any porting done to their motors? i didnt think that could happen w/o a drag port on it. guess my bro dialed it in pretty good that day. WickedBanshee Posted December 30, 2003 Author Report Posted December 30, 2003 bump has anyone had this happen to a non ported motor? Quote
mcaf29 Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 Yes, but mine had high compression domes in it. Quote
evil Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 wicked, mcaf, can you guys post a pic of this im interested in seeing what it looks like being the motor in my 01 doesnt have it done yet but the ported motor is all trued and welded and crap, scary thought being i hammer the crap out of mine and have friends that had it happen but never seen it. later Quote
Nighty Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 Pictures would be great, I have about the same setup as wickedbanshee, and i rather keep the banshee in 1 piece thanks! Quote
boonman Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 My crank twisted, and then blew apart. I do not have any pics however. Quote
mcaf29 Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 You can see it here: Notice the gap on the left you can see the bearing in the gap which is not good. Quote
eehsnab2 Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 Same exact thing happened to me with about the exact same bolt on's. I got mine welded just in time!!!! Quote
Nightrider Posted December 30, 2003 Report Posted December 30, 2003 I'm sure with enough abuse,a stock crank will seperate even on a stock shee.If your getting good traction and dumping the clutch quite a bit,it would be only a matter of time. Especially during those 2nd gear dumps when it boggs due to too much traction.Think about where all of that negative force is sent,if your clutch is beefy, then the crank wil take the brunt. A friend of mine still has a ported shee with 21cc domes,he is still running a stock crank. Not a big dragger because its really geared for the trail, but he does power through the trails. With the way he rides it may never split. Quote
WickedBanshee Posted December 31, 2003 Author Report Posted December 31, 2003 mine never bogged in 2nd when i dumped it but there was a load on it. and i pretty much only dragged it. also had a stock clutch. Quote
troyminator Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 Guys, Please excuse my ignorance...but I am trying to understand what you are looking at with the crank... I haven't had my crank out yet...gonna be taking it out soon. I was just hoping that maybe somebody could put some arrows on mcaf29's picture posted here so that I can see what he is talking about. Thanks, Your help is appreciated! T Quote
Justintoxicated Posted January 21, 2004 Report Posted January 21, 2004 on the bottem of the left piston rod you can see a slight space, thats all it takes and your crank is toast. The stock crank cannot be rebuilt either right? I know its so $$ to replace any parts you might as well buy a new one anyways. Mine was barley in tolerance when I had it built with the same mods you have wicked, only my timing was not even advanced..Only I have FMFs and different paddles. You might as well build a stroker now, since your replacing the crank anyways Quote
