Is it possible a stock 99 wouldn't need rebuilt?

I have been looking for a stock banshee (motor beefed up is fine) I just like the look and stance of the original. Anyway I found a complete 99 that appears to not have been ridden much. Is it a guarantee it will need rebuilt just by being old or how can I tell?

Do a compression test on it. They'll let you know what kinda shape the top end it's in.

I haven't had a banshee in 10 yes and have forgotten a lot. What number would be acceptable?

I'm pretty sure it's around 125-120 stock. I don't know where your at but elevation may play a role in your numbers as well. This will probably not be the common view but as long as the cylinders both read the same or a very small difference I would run them if they were over a hundred PSI.

Thank you. I'm between 500-900 ft and it also has FMF pipes and silencers. Only aftermarket parts it has.

at 900ft, 120psi would be what you want.

110psi would be acceptable.

 

100psi is looking to need a rebuild. I personally would not let a low compression number (on both pistons) deter from buying. I would use that as a reason to drop $500+ off the asking price.

 

Thank you for the info. I know its overpriced but im pretty picky and cant decide if I should get it or not. I know i have seen people get running bikes for $1500 etc but where I live there arent many around and what are around are already junked out or modded to death. I like the clean stock look and this one from what I can see looks pretty good but people on here are very knowledgeable and can spot stuff i never could.  He wants 3800. They dont make them anymore. The funny thing is I had the exact same graphics on a j arm over 12 yrs ago. Nostalgia to me. I think im going to get it, if it runs good. Going tomorrow or wednesday to get it.
