doug Posted January 22, 2017 Report Posted January 22, 2017 (edited) Hi there, My shifter seal is leaking. I replaced it last season and it stopped leaking. After riding most of this summer, I had to replace it again. It was fine for a while and then it started leaking. I have not hit anything that I am aware of that would bend the shifter itself and it looks fine. Any ideas? Thanks. Edited January 22, 2017 by doug Quote
rubberneck Posted January 22, 2017 Report Posted January 22, 2017 does the shift shaft have grooves worn in it where the seal rides? If so time for a new shift shaft Quote
registered user Posted January 22, 2017 Report Posted January 22, 2017 few things. theres a brass bushing right behind the seal. if its worn the shaft will flop around more than normal. put clear tape over the shaft splines when you put in a new seal or you can gouge the seal lips. check the shaft straightness with a straight edge. could be a number of things. shouldn't be overly complicated to figure out Quote

doug Posted February 1, 2017 Author Report Posted February 1, 2017 Finally got out to the garage. Not the shifter seal. As shown in attached photo, it's dry. Appears to be leaking from the two bottom bolts where the case saver bolts in. Anyone ever had this happen? Any ideas? I've never run into this before. Photo attached. thanks. Quote
doug Posted February 1, 2017 Author Report Posted February 1, 2017 There appears to be cracks? at each of the holes as shown in the attached photo. I don't imagine these are supposed to be there? Thanks guys, love this site. Quote
sleeper06 Posted February 1, 2017 Report Posted February 1, 2017 90% of shee motors I work on have cracks like yours. As zilla said if oring is worn replace if you want get the billet one Quote
doug Posted February 1, 2017 Author Report Posted February 1, 2017 Would really like to have heard that this was in fact the cause of the leaking oil. Don't know why it is broken...should I be checking something else? ok, oring looked fine to me though. Picture attached. Why billet? Stronger? Quote
trickedcarbine Posted February 1, 2017 Report Posted February 1, 2017 O ring is not fine. I can see burs hanging off it in the photo. Quote
bigweav81 Posted February 1, 2017 Report Posted February 1, 2017 Jds makes on I believe. Sent from my SM-S820L using Tapatalk Quote
doug Posted February 1, 2017 Author Report Posted February 1, 2017 What looks like burs is actually a bit of oily gunk. I cleaned it up and took another shot. No trouble to change, just hoping to nail this problem. I can only upload a max. of 50kb total, so my images are tiny and I can only upload 1. Quote
