thet3chnician
I've done a squish on both of my cylinders and both came in at around .078 to .080 is this too much or can i run it. if its too much I'm thinking all i have to do is get a new cylinder shim kit and gaskets. hercalmighty
That is a very loose squish. What is your current setup. What is a shim kit? Are you talking about a spacer plate?
mailman
That is excessive squish but you can run it. Depending on the build most people set theirs up around .040". It won't hurt anything to run excessive squish except power output.
trickedcarbine
Most at .40!? Meh, not sure about that.... That's on the tight side.
thet3chnician
It's got a 4mm tdr stroker in it so they put a 4mm spacer plate below the cylinders. It was this way when I bought it. I've got to replace the plate gaskets anyways so I was wondering if someone sold a spacer plate with gaskets that I could use instead and then tighten up my squish as well. trickedcarbine
Didn't you have cut domes? If the ports are set up for that plate leave it. Maybe just have the right domes made with proper squish. PM me a number and I can help ya on the phone and get you situated with what you need to know to order domes from someone like DriveLine or Noss. thet3chnician
No, I've got pd cool heads with 20cc domes.
hercalmighty
I read another post of yours that said the plate has o rings in it, correct? Now my question is, are you checking tour squish with the plate and gaskets or just the plate with orings
thet3chnician
I've checked it with just the plate no gasket.. The spacer plate takes o rings but they were ruined when I pulled the jugs off. So checking squish I just torqued everything down with just the plate but it should be the same since it only takes o rings and would seat metal to metal regardless. trickedcarbine
Is the piston below the top of the cylinder, flush or does it come out of the bore?
thet3chnician
My pistons come to just below the cylinder deck at tdc.
thet3chnician
So I don't believe I need custom domes I just need to skinny my spacer plate. The other concern I had would be port timing but would that be effected by such a small move in the cylinders?
thet3chnician
And I'm running 20cc domes.. Before I rebuilt the top end the previous owner ran 19cc domes so could this have anything to do with the huge squish I've got? (.078-.080)
bigweav81
A little bit of movement will probably affect it more then you think. What size is your spacer plate? I have a brand new gasket style one you can have.
thet3chnician
@bigweav81 I believe my plate is 4mm or thereabouts.. I havnt put a caliper to it. What is my best bet as far as tightening up my squish band?
