worst case scenario

I know that my shift shaft is a little messed up considering I cant shift from first to second at high rpms, but a bunch of my friends are doing a end of the year ride this weekend and the parts to fix it dont come until next week what would the worst case scenario be if I went riding without fixing it

Dont shift at high RPMs between first and second gear. ..ride all day...wanna miss a whole ride? Or you wanna just take it easy and get your ride in?

Take it easy and I doubt it's the shaft itself most likely grooved basket/inner/outer/ stretched cable / clutch plates
