Hey quick update. Going to save some money and run these 38mm yz 125 carbs i have laying in the shop. Not sure how it will run but worth a shot for the time being.

They are mikuni's. I know everyone pretty much runs keihin's but for something I have laying around they will work? Of course the will probably need jetting and I may polish them up. Ever heard of anyone getting them powder coated or would the gas ruin that?

You can't anodized cast aluminum.

Fuck it, called my brother and asked him what had to be done. The problem with cast is that it is pours and forms an oxide on the surface wich beds in to the pores. So the process is tricky and very difficult to get right and often takes trial and error. He said the guy that did it (aircraft engineer/RC hobbyist) had to etch them, medi blast them, then put them in a tumbler to get a smooth surface.

I've recently seen something on a European quad shop/distributor that does this while looking for those VLS bikes I just posted. If I find it I'll post it.

I was going off of previous posts where the same question was asked about anodizing cylinders.

Many tried it and they just come out black.

I did full polish with clear ceramic coat and they lasted forever.

I always dreamt of polished and gold plated....but gold shot thru the roof.

Yeah, the searching I've been doing says that if there is still oxide remaining it'll go black. Different silicon contents make the alloy can have an effect on how far the annodize penetrates as well.

that makes them kinda hard to weld and have real penetration.

on the other hand..   that "show chrome powder" will not look like chrome.  polished then sealed or the ceramic seems like a great idear.   if you powder the cylinders they will also hold more heat in them..

i run alky on a 350  larger motor dosent mean thats when you need alky.   if its a "drag bike" it should be on alky  or your just leaving a lot on the table  OR paying 28-20 bucks a gallon for high end race fuel... m  of course  just my opinion

that 2nd bike looks saaweet!!  the first one for this thread looks like its a single a-arm setup?   so whats the story on the 2nd bike?  where did those pipes go?  where did that welded cyl motor end up?
