SiCkBaNsHeE_990 Posted November 18, 2003 Author Report Posted November 18, 2003 oh so i have to unhook the cable in just the tors or in the carb also? Quote
boonman Posted November 18, 2003 Report Posted November 18, 2003 I have never taken my tank off to do jetting. Even with the TORS still on the bike. I don't know what the deal is with thinking the needle will fall out when you turn the carb upside down. I have never heard of such things.... And the little white plastic "splash shield" isn't held in by the main jet on any carb I have seen. It simply slides over the main once it is installed. But, you are correct that the plastic must be removed to gain accesss to the pilot jet. And if you just take the carb top off, you can just spin the carb on it's side to change the jets. And if you don't have TORS, you can change jets with the tops still on!!!!! Another thought, if you had to take your air box lid off to make it run clean, than you were jetted too rich. I run 300 mains with the lid on. No problem.... in the winter I was running 320's or 330's depending on temp..... All with the lid on.... Quote

Hey boonman On my stock carbs the plastic splash sheild IS held on by the main jet...???(2000 banshee) You don't have to removing anything, not even your plastics to cange the Jets. You don't have to remove the Carbs Tops (not even with the TORS) to change the Jets (just needle settigns) Removing the Lid allows more unrestricted air flow and leans the bike out, I prefer to run it this way. The way I do my jets is like this. 1) Remove all 6 clamps compleatly. 2) remove fuel tubing from carbs. (including the black line from the fuel tank) 3) Remove Carbs or boots (whichever is easier first) and choke tube 4) Undo the 4 screws that hold the bottem of the carb on. 5) replace jets (main jet holds the plastic splash sheild the notch the plastic inserts in is where the pilot jet is) 6) put it back together and stick carb into the reed hose thing, making sure its aligned with the notch 7) work boot back over carb and airbox (check to make sure its seated perfectly) 8) re-install hose clamps (make sure the notch is aligned with the notch on the reed hose things (not sure what they are called ) 9) re-attach choke cable 10) re-attach all fuel lines *note: It will be easier to istall the boots if the air box is removed but takign off plastics just for this is a Pain also. The TORS cable should be long enough to allow you to work on the carb without removing the top. Be careful not to lose the washer that is on the other side of the splash sheild, same goes for the Jesus clip on the needle if your moving the needle. Also take your time and be patient, the room for working on it is tight, but it is possible to do it this way. Quote

Mr.Giggles Posted November 19, 2003 Report Posted November 19, 2003 Hey Justintoxicated thats funny that your splash shields are held in with the jet. I have a 2000 stock carbs and they are not Mind you they do sit in there somewhat tight. Quote

whobanshee Posted November 19, 2003 Report Posted November 19, 2003 well the needle jet did fall out of mine and to sickbanshee-990 no you do not have to remove the tors all the way just unscrew it off the top of the carbs and let it rest there and I removed my tank cuz I fiqured that while I was in there I would do a little extra clean up in those hard to reach places but you can rejet with out removing the tank if you want its up to you Quote
