87bansheepnw Posted April 7, 2014 Report Posted April 7, 2014 does anyone run just regular car 50/50 mix coolant and water in their banshees? thats what i have in mine, just wondering if it will be ok for a full day of riding, also i dont have a overflow anymore Quote
Finch Posted April 7, 2014 Report Posted April 7, 2014 works just fine. i used to run the blue shit but to spendy and cheapo brand from any parts store works fine Quote
tdod101 Posted April 7, 2014 Report Posted April 7, 2014 Yup prestone 50/50 is what I run, whatever you decide just make sure it's good for aluminum engines Quote
SAVAGE420 Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 That's all i run is the cheapest no name brand 50/50 from walmart. I used to run engine ice.....junk doesn't do anything but make your wallet lighter. Ive checked temp difference with a laser temp gauge, and an in-line temp gauge with barely any change at all if any.....50/50 elcheapo is the way to go. Same with the trans, i use the cheapest no name brand ATF Type F from walmart. I use it all season long then change it out at the end of the season once. Always good to go for $3.50 a bottle. I always use the good shit in my motor though. Amsoil Dominator @ 50:1 and 100LL. Just grabbed both trans and coolant fluid for $20 bux couple days ago at walmart........DEEECENT!!!! My over flow bottle is deep in the land fill a decade ago. Quote
tdod101 Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 I'm still trying to sell my coolant bottle Quote
SAVAGE420 Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 I'm still trying to sell my coolant bottle $1 Bob. Sent from my shed. Quote
87bansheepnw Posted April 8, 2014 Author Report Posted April 8, 2014 yeah one of the best mods ive done is relocate the overflow bottle to the landfill lmao. thanks guys, i have prestone in it now i wont feel bad about it Quote
trickedcarbine Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 Gave up on engine ice. The Be cool stuff runs a touch cooler but it's expensive. Last time I filled up I used peak pre mixed and added the redline water wetter. That ran pretty nice and had a noticeable temp drop on the laser. 1 Quote
RagunCajun Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 cheap 50/50 and i make sure i keep air through my radiator(i keep the bike moving) Quote
dirtydownunder Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 If you don't know what coolant is in it, drain it and flush with clean water, then put your new coolant. Mixing different coolants can be bad. Quote
J-Madd Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 Distilled water + water wetter or just distilled water. Make sure you bleed the water line on the head for best cooling. Quote
87bansheepnw Posted April 8, 2014 Author Report Posted April 8, 2014 how do i bleed the line on the head? Quote
SAVAGE420 Posted April 8, 2014 Report Posted April 8, 2014 I just use compressed air to get it all out. Then run water through.... Then compressed air again. 20psi or so is enough. Don't look in the hole lol Sent from my shed. Quote
tysbanshee350 Posted April 9, 2014 Report Posted April 9, 2014 (edited) Ive had luck with engine ice, hit it with the thermometer and it runs a little cooler but nothing crazy. Ive never had it boil over with engine ice Edited April 9, 2014 by tysbanshee350 Quote
