Flywheel nut came off

I had my flywheel nut come off, sheered the key and damaged the tapered end of the crank.  the threads are ok but can i run it like this? is there anything I can do other than tear it apart and replace the crank??

How damaged is the taper? Pics? If the key slot is not damaged and the flywheel still fits the taper tight u might be able to get away with it.

the key slot is fine, its probably questionable it the flywheel will fit tight, doesn't seem like I have a lot to loose I may is well try it is what i'm thinking. pretty cheap to buy a nut and key.

Tack weld it that's what Finch had me do to mine when it kept falling off after he ported my cylinders with a chisel and hammer. Made too much POWA!

 

Lap it to the crank and try again. Get a bigger impact.

yes, lapping compound - use it.

ok.  i've never heard of lapping compound. auto parts store? what is it?

Any auto parts store. little tube of gritty paste, smear it on twist flywheel by hand back and forth round and round, remove, clean well. Bam Nice new mating surface.

valve lapping compound is whats it wil usually be labeled at autoparts stores or do as Juan said

if there are any high spots on the the crank and flywheel tapers you prolly want to get rid of those first carefully with a smooth file before you start lapping
