in michigan anyways wich looks like you are in also. You have a police officer come to your house and look at the bike. he runs the Vin and if it comes back not stolen and no lean listed. he writes you out a certificate. you take that to SoS and show that to them and fill out a form to certify ownership. they issue you a bonded title then mail you a real title in about 30 days

But strip frame bare first, otherwise if it comes up negative you only lose a frame. The "ATV" = the frame...just like a receiver = a gun.

Uman1030, Where do you go to run the VINS on these? That is a great idea by the way too.

i looked at several different options to do this not sure which one i used but this is in my bookmarks so maybe this one https://www.nicb.org/theft_and_fraud_awareness/vincheck/vincheck. I also had my boss have his PD buddy run my vins and they all came back good.

Edit: this is where i recieved the report i have. found it in email https://www.vinaudit.com/vin-check

actually it ends up routing you to the first link anyways even if you use the second link.

In PA we need a bill of sale to obtain a title...we can call DCNR and have the title checked over the phone for free...I always run VIN before purchase for 2 reasons...1. To verify its good..2. If the seller is shady about givibg you VIN you shpuld prolly stay away anyway...

Also...if there was a title but hasnt been changed since say 1993 and there are no liens (which our DCNR also checks for for free over phone) and has not been reported stolen...they send a certified letter to last name and address on title...obviously its certified letter so someone has to sign...if in 14 days they do not receive response and no one has signed for document the old title becomes invalid and a new title is availible to be put directly into your name or anyones name for that matter...

and you do not need to have already purchased the bike for this service to be rendered. ..if the seller is cool with it and can hold on to the bike for the time it takes you can have all your ducks in a row before you even buy bike..

But I agree with windy...but on an absolute "legal" side...I know there are states that dont require you to have a "title" but I think if push came to shove legally it wouldnt hold up...a title in my mind is cheap insurance....

That was a lot of typing...ok its beer time!

So, if nobody EVER applied for a title, and there is no lein, who legaly owns it?

Thinking of taking Vin to popo and saying "thinking of buying this, is it hot?" If not, then have popo come to house and run vin then get title,

BTW, I'm in the MURDER MITTEN
