Frame Prep Tips

Recommended Posts

Earlier today I almost finished tearing down the Shee and am about ready to go get the frame sandblasted.  Just had some questions on what I have to do after the frame is sandblasted prep wise.  Am I pretty much ready to shoot the frame with primer after the sandblasting?  Do I need to take some high grit paper to the frame after?  I'm planning on just using spray paint.  Any answers and tips would be great.

Smooth any ugly welds before, ask if they have plugs for threaded holes, if not use sacrafitial bolts. Have all paint supplies on hand before it goes to blasting, Paint as soon as possible. Wear latex gloves EVERY time it's handled after blasting. Have all other prep done before it goes to blast.

If PC is so mutha fuggin great, why do you need to touch up? Nail polish must be pretty durable shit.

I don't know what kind of horse shit powder coat you guys have experience with, but It took an acetylene torch to cook my powder coat off my subframe to get it modded. I can't picture chipping that shit. (Not any place that anyone would see.)

Mine has held up to sand, gas, oil, grease, brake cleaner, multiple engine removals and installs, fame dragged over trailer side rails, hot pipes, even brake fluid.

This. I've rolled bikes with PC end over end that never even got a scratch.
