No acceleration in 6th gear

Recommended Posts

My banshee has no balls in 6th gear. I'm thinking gearing issue? 14 front 40 rear. It runs great hard pulling in 1-5 but 6th just falls on her face. Ct dune drag port cool head 145psi compression Vito's fat bastard pipes vforce 2 reeds reed spacers timing advanced 3 degrees with key on flywheel 3+ swing arm. It's seems to run fine good golden brown color on plugs not black not white just right. I'm at a loss here and I don't wana just start buying sprockets to try things that could cost alot before I find what I need. Would a 42 rear be good or maybe 43 on the rear? Or go 13 on the front?

Sounds like the compression is low, but 145 psi sounds ok (depending on dome size.) When did it start doing this? Is something dragging the motor down (brake sticking, bearing)? You should pull that gear no problem unless you weigh a lot.

It never pulled in 6, only when it was stock it pulled in 6. But I have a friend with a stock banshee (jus fmf pipes) i blow his doors off. My 5th gear blows right past his 6th. It started when I did all porting and bolt on parts but man I tell ya what 1-5 is wow compared to stock but no 6 acceleration. Did I just use a too small back sprocket? Ct said drop a tooth or 2 but maybe I shouldn't have or maybe they said go up a tooth. They won't tell me at this time if its up or down, they say send us the motor.

So is it revving, but not accelerating? That would be a clutch issue. If its just falling on its face, something else is wrong. My unported Banshee pulls 15/41 in 6th gear easily; and I have ran 16/41. I had a stator cause that as well, as Jessie pointed out, The more load you put on it, the more the stator issue shows.

It's not reving or accelerating. I got a 13 front and now 1-5 in dirt screams but no pull in 6. I've done a plug chop and they are golden brown and not wet. I did break a wire on the stator and fixed it and it checked fine with the ohm meter but no way of checking it under a load. I don't wana have to buy that stator it costs too much with a no return policy on electronics if that doesnt solve the problem. I'm not cutting the fenders looks dumb and then I have no fender. I guess pull a stator from my friends and try it.

I rechecked the stator and I got 20ohms on the charging coil 100ohms on the pickup and my meter doesn't have a x1 scale to test the lighting coil at the .26-.38 ohm on the lights but my lights work anyway. My fix when I broke a wire was where the winding ended and was attached to the wires coming out of the motor. My next thing is check pilot jet size because full throttle is main jet and that's fine golden brown but maybe pilot being wrong with the biggest jump in gear ratio at 5-6 she can't pick up rpm with an incorrect pilot. After that if no luck ill switch to a 42 rear and run 13:42 secondary gear reduction like the 87-89 factory banshee ran.
