Guest mumshouldaswallowed Posted April 2, 2013 Report Posted April 2, 2013 just got an banshee the other day. was planing on poping in a piston kit just incase. found out that seal on the gear shifting lever is leaking oil so the new plan is change every seals and gasket. since iam there. should i change enything els? like the cranks? or should i wait till it actualy stuffs up, enything to improve performance ect. the engine i would like to build is for tight trail riding. i probaly wont port it and leave the bore stock. i find it pretty good for trails. i dont know what people are complaing about. maybe its the way the ride it i think, is this normal for a banshee? 1st 2nd 3rd pulls strong. 3rdish 4th 5th gear feels like its lagging. i cant feel it pulling. but then when i shift it to 6th gear it pulls realy hard. feels like power band kicked in from the start, i tested this on bitumen btw, the bike is stock. came with toomey t5. stock carb i think. the jet is 220, 25, iam in a hot area. 35degrees all the time. trickedcarbine Posted April 2, 2013 Report Posted April 2, 2013 Those jets are a bit lean for the pipes you run. Definitely has something to do with its lagging feeling,I'd assume. That 35* Celsius? As far as gaskets, find a good set from Cometic, and any of our site sponsors should be able to get you a full set of seals. Just do them all and have peace of mind. Quote
Guest mumshouldaswallowed Posted April 2, 2013 Report Posted April 2, 2013 my bad. its 30c, thanks guys. is there eny bearings or enything els i would need to change? cus it takes me around 2-4 weeks to receive eny stuff from the states. Quote
trickedcarbine Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 Might as well press on a pair of max load bearings on the crank and burn a little weld on it as wl since you'll be in the bottom end Quote
Guest mumshouldaswallowed Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 how lucky am i! haha thank god i allways have this stupid habbit. when ever i buy enything 2 stroker or whatever the 1st thing i do is change pistons or replace filters. oil. spark plugs. ect. Quote
Guest mumshouldaswallowed Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 were abouts do i tap it? on the edge of the bearing and crank rod? does enybody know if the crank would still be good after this? the piston has a massive wear mark on the top edge. exhaust side. it has a few long scrach from top to bottom on the carby side. the head were the spark plug is has a few small holes. the cyclinder barrel looks ok. i dont see no scraches. the crank wobbles a fare bit side ways but still feels like its tight on the bearings when pushing down. the piston was a pro x. the top piston ring was worn to the piston on the exhaust side Quote
trickedcarbine Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 Find another OEM crank to have it trued and welded with fresh bearings on it. No point in putting it back together with slop Quote
Guest mumshouldaswallowed Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 i know man but if it lastes me 1 or 2 years its all good. i could allways rip it out again haha. what do you think about the crank? should it be good for another few years. Quote
trickedcarbine Posted April 3, 2013 Report Posted April 3, 2013 You just said its got excessive side to side play. That makes me think you should replace it. If its worn there is no telling how long it has left on it. Might last a couple seasons, might only last a couple rides...... You're your own man. Up to you. Quote
Larry's Shee Posted April 7, 2013 Report Posted April 7, 2013 Measure the side to side with feeler gages. Look in manual. BAMM, there's your answer. Quote
