I just bought a basket case banshee today. I noticed that this one has the oldschool gold rims but they're painted black. Anyone know if I can sand blast the paint off without killing the gold finish? Should I sodablast instead?

I think soda will strip the gold anodizing too. I have an old gold rim and a soda blaster,I'll try it some time and let you know. If you're not in a hurry.   Soaking them in thinner would work, I'd be careful with stripper though.

Air craft grade paint remover might work. Especially if it was rattle caned black auto parts stores carry it

Go this route sir. The gold on the OEM rims are anodized. Paint remover won't hurt it. Use lacquer thinner on a very wet rag to finish after the remover to make them perfect.

Don't sandblast them!

Thanks guys. Its been 4 degrees here for the last couple of days so I havent gotten to this project. I'm going to give break cleaner a shot first. If that doesnt go well I'll try to track down the aircraft grade paint remover. Glad I didn't try soda blasting. Thanks for trying that out for me HQ soldier
