CAJUN BANSHEE Posted November 14, 2012 Report Posted November 14, 2012 Quick ?, I over torqued my cyl head by a miscommunication. In doing so I beveled the copper washers under the acorn nuts. Should I order new ones, flip these over or am I paranoid and just roll with it now that I re-torqued to spec. Oh, its a Chrome chariot head if it makes a difference. Quote
Blazen582 Posted November 14, 2012 Report Posted November 14, 2012 speakin for myself, I would see if they leak, dependin on how much they are smashed. I reuse them all the time, and have flipped them over. Quote
Tedder Posted November 14, 2012 Report Posted November 14, 2012 If they don't leak don't mess with them! Quote
Finch Posted November 14, 2012 Report Posted November 14, 2012 i dont have a chariot head but ive never once used washers Quote
vulvafan537240 Posted November 14, 2012 Report Posted November 14, 2012 I'd use em. If they leak, get some more. Quote
CAJUN BANSHEE Posted November 14, 2012 Author Report Posted November 14, 2012 Yea, think ill try em out and see what happens. Thanks yall, that's what I was thinking too, I just needed a few opinions on it. Quote
wfobasheeboy Posted November 14, 2012 Report Posted November 14, 2012 Run them and see whats up. If no leaks all is good. Quote
Nieskes Posted November 14, 2012 Report Posted November 14, 2012 You will be fine, I have never even used them. Call me stupid but how will the copper washer cause a "leak"? Is that not what the oring is for? Unless your orings are up against the threads or your stud is fucked up. Quote
AKheathen Posted November 15, 2012 Report Posted November 15, 2012 those 0-rings are not always a good seal, though they thechnically shouldn't leak. and yes, copper is a real common high pressure seal, and thread-saver. most commonly, found on drain/fill plugs and fuel lines. i have used blue rtv silicone to seal the nuts. as long as the copper is not paper-thin, it should still do it's job. re-torque after a couple heat cycles. erock1911 Posted November 15, 2012 Report Posted November 15, 2012 i would just flip them over it wont hurt anything... i dont even have washers on mine works fine!! ur good Quote
CAJUN BANSHEE Posted November 15, 2012 Author Report Posted November 15, 2012 Thanks yall, soon as i get my new crank back in I'll run her then re torque. Quote
Paulie B Posted November 15, 2012 Report Posted November 15, 2012 I've found those copper washers to be a pain in the ass. Mine like to get caught on the head studs making them real hard to get off. Guess i need new ones.... Quote
