I found the bottom rings stuck on both pistons. Any reason for this? Should i yank the rings and just get new ones? Cylinders look good still. Quote
n2otoofast4u Posted November 12, 2012 Report Posted November 12, 2012 If its been sitting for a long time this isnt that uncommon. If it were me Id put new rings in simply because they are cheap. BUT if you can get them out without bending or distorting them yeah clean em up and put them back on. Quote
bansheesandrider Posted November 12, 2012 Report Posted November 12, 2012 Rings are cheap. I would not reuse them, I have never put my cylinders back on with used rings. You want maximum performance, and the way to get there is with the best cylinder seal possible! Quote

shee4speed Posted November 16, 2012 Author Report Posted November 16, 2012 (edited) I took the jugs and had them honed. I could not get the ring out of one piston. Paulie B Posted November 16, 2012 Report Posted November 16, 2012 In my experience caster based oils tend to do this the most. That and overheating regular oil. This also tends to happen in winter or a motor that has sat without running for a while. Once you get the rings unstuck use a cut old ring to clean the channel. Quote

I got new pistons, rings, whole top and honed out ready to go to put it back together and I will ditch the Klotz I've been using and go back to 927. Never had trouble till I switched oil. Quote
