stroking Posted September 2, 2012 Report Posted September 2, 2012 Anyone here know what cause a plug to do this......so far only happens with b9es plugs Quote
stroking Posted September 2, 2012 Author Report Posted September 2, 2012 122 dump 118 main4mil cub 185 psi +10 timing alcohol with pump Quote
SlowerThanYou Posted September 2, 2012 Report Posted September 2, 2012 Detonation & that plug is showing pieces of piston on it also. Quote
RadarRacing Posted September 2, 2012 Report Posted September 2, 2012 (edited) Definately like slowerthan you said. Detonation and shows small specks of aluminum on it. Needs fixed ASAP. Either throw more fuel at it, lower timing ....10 degrees is a bunch for most setups. loosen squish , lower compression. This isnt the setup you had a post about that had 270 psi of cranking compression is it? I honestly dont crank the piss out of my plugs when I tighten em and they will luckily fall out if there is any detonation. I have spit a plug out and taken the head off and had NO pitting at all. It sorta protects me from my own stupidity. If you are running asphalt I wouldnt think you would want over 5 to 7 degrees timing. Edited September 2, 2012 by RadarRacing Quote
mike0chek Posted September 3, 2012 Report Posted September 3, 2012 Detonation & that plug is showing pieces of piston on it also. x2, i would back the timing off some. how is the motor performing? Quote
RadarRacing Posted September 3, 2012 Report Posted September 3, 2012 Many times you can hear detonation , the side with detination will get a little quieter and lose the real ring of the pipe ping and have a different sound that will sorta sound like sand is rattling in the pipe. A hot motor is more prone to detonation. Of you have a good running setup that likes a lot of timing you just may not be able to run it unless the motor is cooler. My old dome, pipe setup liked timing and I just never ran it very warm and kept it very rich. Quote
stroking Posted September 3, 2012 Author Report Posted September 3, 2012 it did damage the top of the piston, but compression was still 185psi after this happen. im taking it apart again will get some pic up. Quote
stroking Posted September 3, 2012 Author Report Posted September 3, 2012 i blame the pipes. shearers .... thought there the BEST you can get ?! Quote
trickedcarbine Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 i blame the pipes. You forgot to ask if he checked his jetting...... Quote
stroking Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 i checked the compression again before i pulled the head and it went up to 210psi in both cylinders.....even with this messed up piston timing was on +9 Quote
stroking Posted September 4, 2012 Author Report Posted September 4, 2012 (edited) that white park of the plug can really do damage to a piston......i rather just burn the strap off vs breaking the white part Edited September 4, 2012 by stroking Quote
mike0chek Posted September 4, 2012 Report Posted September 4, 2012 how many hours on the motor? Quote
stroking Posted September 5, 2012 Author Report Posted September 5, 2012 how many hours on the motor? maybe 1 Quote
