brent07 Posted March 19, 2012 Report Posted March 19, 2012 Bought this thing and it had been sitting outside for a year carbs were a mess i cleaned them up good put new choke tube on it runs ok in 1st and 2nd but just falls on its face after that in anything over 1/4 throttle. The carbs had 28 pilot and the mains had no markings at all on either one of them its all stock as far as i can tell except fmf pipes. Also i squirted a little carb cleaner on left carb/intake and idle raised would air leak cause this? what would be a starting spot for jets? If i have to buy intake should i upgrade? Does anyone work stock carbs to get any gain? Lots of questions i know thanks in advance. Quote

Larry's Shee Posted March 19, 2012 Report Posted March 19, 2012 Did you soak the carbs or just give them a quick douche? After sitting for a year they need a complete cleaning, Take everything apart/out and soak them in Berrymans, or equal. Set floats, sync, start at 1 1/2 on air screw. Make sure you get float bowl on correct carb. One with little "BB" on front goes on left carb. Are your slides in correct carb? Slide cutaway (angled slice) faces air cleaner. Quote
brent07 Posted March 19, 2012 Author Report Posted March 19, 2012 I just took them apart and used carb cleaner I didn't have anything to soak them in I will try soaking them. I double checked slides I will check bowls I did them one at a time but could have been swapped before I got it Thanks Quote
Poolman Posted March 19, 2012 Report Posted March 19, 2012 Brent, You have been given some good suggestions. Definitely take the bowls off the carbs and soak them. Blow out all passage ways and with compressed air. Take the pilot jets out and you should be able to see light through the very very small hole. Blow these out also. sometimes if you just take one metal bristle off of a wire brush you can use this to also help clean out the pilot hole. Depending on how old the bike is it may be a good idea to order yourself two rebuild kit's from Jeff at FAST and rebuild the carbs. Just don't use the main jet or the pilot jet from the rebuild kit because they will be for a stock banshee that doesn't even have pipes. Since your's has pipes I'm going to assume previous owner either jetted or had the bike re jetted for the fmf pipes. If you don't have a Clymer's manual now would be a good time to get one. Jeff also sells those. Stock pilot on Banshee came with a 25. They go in increments of 2.5, so 25, 27.5, 30, 32.5, etc.... I would start off with a 27.5 in yours if it does not already have that in it. Stock mains are 200. If someone was interested enough to put pipes on the bike then I would imagine they have done something with the filter system, i.e. took the snorkel off, and I have no idea but maybe running the bike with the filter but without the lid ? If this is somewhat the case I would say your mains are in the vicinity of 260. Mains go in increments of 10 + or - Your going to have to sync your carbs. You can either read about that on this forum which there is tons of info about or follow the directions in the Clymer's manual. Also if your bike still has the parking brake on it make sure it is off when running your machine because if it's on and you still have the tors system hooked up the bike will run like ASS anywhere after 1/4 throttle. I could write a book telling you more and more and more but you will have to do your research and it will all start coming together in your head. Take Care and I hope this helps ! Quote
brent07 Posted March 19, 2012 Author Report Posted March 19, 2012 Ok thanks I ordered the sync tool over the weekend while I'm waiting on it I will soak carbs tors is gone but still have the junk on top of carbs I was kinda waiting to make sure carbs were gonna be ok before I ordered delete kit and parking brake I had to unplug it before it would even rev Thanks agiain Quote
Jereme6655 Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 make sure you read the can of carbstuff that you are going to soak the carbs in (the big name brand is berrymans) as you need to remove ALL plastic parts from the carbs and all gaskets.......the shit is gnalry and will eat all that stuff if you dont remove it first.
