edgehanger Posted February 23, 2012 Report Posted February 23, 2012 Thing is there is no pitting in the head at all but the piston is ate up. No air leaks. Cylinder on that side also has little to no compression. I thought maybe timing plate moved or something but its only on one side. Also see some scuff/seizure marks in cylinder. Also thought it was a ring but no pitmarks in head so i doubt it. About to remove cylinder and see what i can find. But i don't wanna fix it till i know exactly what caused this. Quote
lt500rbigbore Posted February 23, 2012 Report Posted February 23, 2012 crank may be out of time... Quote
n2otoofast4u Posted February 23, 2012 Report Posted February 23, 2012 did you just buy this or has it been running good for you for a long time? Quote
edgehanger Posted February 23, 2012 Author Report Posted February 23, 2012 You fail at banshee. WHat is it man...spit it out Quote
edgehanger Posted February 23, 2012 Author Report Posted February 23, 2012 did you just buy this or has it been running good for you for a long time? Ran real good and solid for about 8 months then lost compression. i mean i know its detonation..but why all of a sudden? Quote
Larry's Shee Posted February 23, 2012 Report Posted February 23, 2012 Did you do leakdown test before teardown? Could have gotten a plugged main jet. Quote
edgehanger Posted February 23, 2012 Author Report Posted February 23, 2012 Did you do leakdown test before teardown? Could have gotten a plugged main jet. Yea. No leaks at all. That sounds like a possibility. maybe got some dirt in there. Didn't get a chance to look at the plugs either because they were gone before my buddy brought me the bike. Quote
ticktock Posted February 23, 2012 Report Posted February 23, 2012 What did the head gasket look like on that side? That is pretty nasty btw. Adam Quote
edgehanger Posted February 23, 2012 Author Report Posted February 23, 2012 What did the head gasket look like on that side? That is pretty nasty btw. Adam head gasket looked ok. i couldn't see anything wrong with it. Anywho the bottom end of crank is shot so i get to rebuild the whole thing..yay Quote
Jereme6655 Posted February 23, 2012 Report Posted February 23, 2012 At the 3 o'clock position and the 5oclock position it appears that there may be some metal that is smashed flat on the piston just around the carbon ring on the piston......is it metal or is it just an illusion? I'm wondering if something did the cha-cha stomp all over your pistons..... Maybe a bearing or a piece of a broken skirt? Quote
edgehanger Posted February 24, 2012 Author Report Posted February 24, 2012 I think it just detonated. Piston skirt is fine and rings still in place and there are zero pits in the head Quote
camatv Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 crank blew/ took out piston weird the head is ok tho? also if the crank let go it could have wobbled a tad on that side and made an air leak that may not show up through the crank seal? long shot? rebuild it top to bottom clean everything start over. Burt Reynolds Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 (edited) I think it just detonated. Piston skirt is fine and rings still in place and there are zero pits in the head Detonation would cause pitting, pitting and missing metal are the #1 signs of detonation looks to me like something got in there Edited February 24, 2012 by Burt Reynolds Quote
Paulie B Posted February 24, 2012 Report Posted February 24, 2012 Did you buy it like that? Maybe it just has a different head on it now? Quote
