amont21987
Ok so I rebuilt the top end on my shee, I went from stock to .20 over had it ported put an adjustable timing plate on it and advanced it 4 degrees I have toomey t5 pipes and silencers and now that I have it all back together and got it running it has no power and the power band is not kicking in and every once in a while my left side will quit firing all together. Has something similar to this happened to anyone else or does anyone else have any ideas?
amont21987
Oh and I also put new boysen power reeds in too but that was before I tore it apart and had it bored and ported
RadarRacing
What carbs and jetting? Stock carbs? Did you take the carbs apart? Piston windows facing the reedcage not the exhaust? Have you checked for air leaks?
amont21987
Stock carbs and jets, I hadn't gotten into that yet I didn't take them apart or anything like that
amont21987
And no I haven checked for air leaks not real sure how to do it
Dicklez
Well your gonna have to jet your carbs for the pipes. What kinda port work was done? I never ran stock carbs so I dont know what a good starting point is. I wouldnt run it until you get it jetted so you dont lean it out. sheerider11
Do a leak down test, there's a how to section. Double check the reeds, did you re jet for the port?
amont21987
I haven't jetted it for the port or the bore yet I just got it together and fired it up and took it down the driveway to see if it was running right and to make sure the tors eliminator kit was going to work right
Larry's Shee
So the only thing you recently changed was porting and fresh bore? Has it gotten a lot colder since last time you ran it? What mains are in it now?
amont21987
Yes that's all I have changes recently and yea it has gotten a lot colder and it has the stock mains whatever they r
DallasGDub
Any change in air/fuel ratio requires re-jetting. In this case, pipes and porting. You should always do that before running the bike. Don't want to lean out the new topend.
Jereme6655
Amont... You MUST rejet before you run your bike when you do larger mods (like what you just did) or else you are running the risk of having to throw out those pistons and send those cylinders back to a machine shop to bore/hone them again. Stock jetting (if that is what is really in your bike) should be around a 25 pilot jet and a 200 main jet. If you have pipes I would suggest starting with a 27.5 pilot and at least a 270 main....but more likey around a 280-290. This is if you are around 1500 ft in elevation. Also with a port job your probably looking at more like a 310-330 main If you just did your TORS eliminator kit also then you are going to have to check to see if your carbs are in sync with each other (making sure they open t the same rate and are open the samwe amount at idle) You need to read up more on how to do a leak down test and then also read on how to do a plug chop.
