Refinishing Plastic

I'm sure this has been talked about before but really could not find anything on the subject. Is there any real way to refinish plastics. Wet sanding, Buffing? What works the best?

Nope. 1 good option, buy new plastic.

There was a thread where a guy took some that looked horrible and made em look good. Think he wet sanded and a few other steps. Find that thread and Ull be good to go. I think they were red.

Thanks. I'm looking but no luck yet. I hit them with armoral once and it looks good but you know. Dont last.

I've heard Soft Scrub with Bleach can work wonders.

 

(not Soft Scrub mixed with bleach but the Soft Scrub that says 'with bleach' on the label)

x2 don't mess with them just save up & buy nice used ones. everyone i know that's tried it was not happy with the results and wasted days sanding.

What about "plastic renew"?? I had a buddy that used it like 10+ years ago on his dirtbike after races, if I remember correctly it worked pretty good.... but I would like to see if anyone else has tried it since its been so long and my memry tends to be a little foggy. Prob just leave them on untill I roll it down a hill. Its not really the money but I beat the shit out of everything and would hate to have a few hundy in new plastics and fuckem up. Yea well. I'll stop bitchin

You can step sand them starting at 400 and work your way up to 1000+ grit. You can also step sand them using steel wool the same way.

After that buff them out and you have new plastics. If you want to change the color Krylon makes plastic paint thats pretty good. Use a wax/oil/greese remover to prep before paint.

No cracks or flakes at all. It will scratch though but not too easy. Every now and then it will start gettin to me and I'll take a q-tip soaked in paint and fix it.

One reason they look so good in the last pic is because the benifit to paint is you can wax it lol

I've been using the he'll out of the krylon fusion paint . It's awesome stuff! Stays flexible , doesn't crack or peel . I used the krylon fusion patriot blue on my blaster , never had a problem with it coming off .

I've always despised the thought of painting plastics but that looks pretty darn good if I do say so myself. I think I'm gonna take a trip to Wally World tomorrow and pick out some paint for these spare plastics I have laying around.
