A longer swingarm would help, so would getting his weight forward. He wasn't a little guy so hugging the tank like a bull rider might have helped too.

yeah i had something like that happen to me reall quick, one mitute i was doing a wheelie next i was laying on the ground. bent clutch lever, handlebars, rear bumper, and put about a 6 inch break in my left rear fender
