quinnsta99 Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Hi All, I have a 2002 Yamaha Banshee and it seems like every spring or every other spring it fires up but refuses to run well. Each time i end up taking it to a mechanic and 90 percent of the time it's the carb that needs to be cleaned. More specifically a stuck float. This year i pulled it our of the shed and have the same issue with the left side carb. I have a 2 part question- 1) Is there a guide/tutorial on this site or elsewhere with step by step removal and cleaning of carbs and how to fix this issue? (Pictures would help) I can't afford to spend big dollars each year to ride. 2) Any advice on winter storage so this problem doesn't happen each year? Thank you in advance for your advice and replies. Quote
kamp0ss Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 Great post. I could use the same information. It is pretty simple from what I hear. Quote
Larry's Shee Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 2. Pages 187-188, 192-204, 56, 88 for storage. I would drain gas tank and float bowls for winter/extended storage. Quote
Larry's Shee Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 For really nasty carbs something like Berrymans Carb Dip can't be beat, completely dissassemble carb, do not soak plastic, rubber, or gaskets, follow directions, use air to blow passages out. Repeat until when you blow air into any passage or hole air comes out somewhere else. Quote

I was thinking about getting this manual, but wasn't sure if anyone on the forum had created a tutorial. As far as winter storage goes i usually turn the fuel supply off, and then let the engine run until it quits. Ryan Quote

Isin't that essentially doing the same thing as draining out the carb/float bowl? I keep hearing the you want to drain the gas out of the carbs for storage. Let me know if i am missing something. Well when you drain the bowls out while its running, you are running it dry "lean" of oil as well. Which is not a good thing at all what so ever. No oil = no good, period! I pull my bowl nuts off and drain into a lil pan at the end of the season. Then i drain the rest of the fuel thats in my tank into the tractor or snowblower then go make a sandwich and grab a beer. quinnsta99 Posted May 11, 2011 Author Report Posted May 11, 2011 I appreciate all the replies. My thinking was since I was burning all of the gas out of the carbs with the engine running it would essentially do the same thing as draining. As far as the no oil part as savage mentioned I don't follow that logic. Isn't the oil already mixed with the gas coming out of the tank so therefore the gas inside the card that is burning off would have oil in it as well. I think the overall consensus here is don't do what i have been for winter storage. I think i will order the Clymer manual to clean since i can't find an online guide. Thanks, Ryan Quote
camatv Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 i believe the digital tool kit or the thread thats pinned JETTING HELP might have pics and a tear down i also second the BY A MANUAL.. if your not very mechanically inclined i'd just take it tot he shop you usually use. i lost count of all the " i cleaned them myself" repairs i have done over the years. Larry's Shee Posted May 20, 2011 Report Posted May 20, 2011 One other thing is that it only runs until it no longer can pull fuel from bowl, that doesn't mean bowl is empty. JMHO, your results may, and will vary. Quote
