  1. I appreciate all the replies. My thinking was since I was burning all of the gas out of the carbs with the engine running it would essentially do the same thing as draining. As far as the no oil part as savage mentioned I don't follow that logic. Isn't the oil already mixed with the gas coming out of the tank so therefore the gas inside the card that is burning off would have oil in it as well. I think the overall consensus here is don't do what i have been for winter storage. I think i will order the Clymer manual to clean since i can't find an online guide. Thanks, Ryan
  2. Isin't that essentially doing the same thing as draining out the carb/float bowl? I keep hearing the you want to drain the gas out of the carbs for storage. Let me know if i am missing something.
  3. Larry, Thanks for the reply. I was thinking about getting this manual, but wasn't sure if anyone on the forum had created a tutorial. As far as winter storage goes i usually turn the fuel supply off, and then let the engine run until it quits. Ryan
  4. Hi All, I have a 2002 Yamaha Banshee and it seems like every spring or every other spring it fires up but refuses to run well. Each time i end up taking it to a mechanic and 90 percent of the time it's the carb that needs to be cleaned. More specifically a stuck float. This year i pulled it our of the shed and have the same issue with the left side carb. I have a 2 part question- 1) Is there a guide/tutorial on this site or elsewhere with step by step removal and cleaning of carbs and how to fix this issue? (Pictures would help) I can't afford to spend big dollars each year to ride. 2) Any advice on winter storage so this problem doesn't happen each year? Thank you in advance for your advice and replies.
  5. I don't understand what the advantage of ATF would be, but it seems logical since it is in a clutch/shift mechanism. What are the advantages to ATF over regular 10-40.
  6. Thanks for the quick replies. I remember it saying that you can use anything without a friction modifier. API or somthing like that. I have heard people reccomed Shell Rotella from Wal-Mart as a good oil instead of 10-40 yamalube. Has anyone ran this. I also hear the argument that oil is oil use anything and change it often. Ryan
  7. Lost my owners manual, and have been taking this to a mechanic for some time so I don't remember the specifics on the oil. Can anyone tell me what weight oil, how much, and reccomended brand? 2002 Banshee Thanks
  8. bump.... Anyone have anything?
  9. I have a 2002 Banshee that has normally been shop serviced about 2 times per year all of its life. They did all the tune ups and fluid changes. I have a couple of general maitenence questions. Oil- Weight and how much. I seem to remember 10-30 no API or something like that. Also on my dirtbike the thumper forums talk alot about using Shell Rotella instead of the more expensive yamalube. Also i have V-Force reeds on the bike, how long do those last, and what needs to be done if anything to check them? Any other things to check on? Thanks, Ryan
  10. Mine used to have a problem with the carbs, and the float needle getting stuck. Fixed those and it was always fine.
  11. Great thanks for the help i will give it a try.
  12. Anyone have a guide or a link to a guide with photos, or a step by step on how to replace the rear brake pads? Mine sounds like metal on metal when i stop so i figure they are gone. Thanks
