Larry's Shee Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Do all the testing/checking BEFORE you start replacing parts. Could be something as simple as a bad switch/ broken/lose wire. Quote
BigRed350x Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 Any time I loose spark one of the first things I do is check your plug caps. Check your wiring connections first and make sure everything is good there. Take your volt meter and check the resistances on the stator coils. The specs are listed in your clymer manual. Check your flywheel pickup coil gap clearance. Try new spark plug coil caps. With the banshees its usually the stator has gone bad or the spark plug caps are wearing out. If the stator is the culprit replace it with a stock unit. Steer clear of the ricky stator junk. - Jared Quote
AKheathen Posted April 15, 2011 Report Posted April 15, 2011 yes, get a meter and ohm everything out.... the caps are usually the first to go, and of course, plugs.... i'm sure everyone has had a plug drop off once or twice durring a long hard pull. ohm out the stator, make sure the black/white wire is not getting ground, and that the black/red wire does (keyswitch run). look for melting of the harness on the exhaust under the seat. check pickup gap on both sides of the flywheel (a sparkplug box flap works good) and, do not ever try to remove the flywheel without the puller, unless it has spun loose on it's own.... RadarRacing Posted April 16, 2011 Report Posted April 16, 2011 AKheathen is right on the money. A puller is only $10-20 and can be found at most cycle shops, all the site sponsors, or Ebay. Definately check for a burned or pinched wire, the stator pickup and the stator. Often you can smell a burned stator when you remove the cover and smell the coils. Quote
banshee95purple Posted May 8, 2011 Report Posted May 8, 2011 My banshee does the same thing but after it dies it willl fire then die in 3 sec. but wait a while and it might start up and run. this is driving me crazy. Stock all but pipes and 300 main jets. Quote
