shoopie Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 when i pull my clutch lever when its in gear it seems like it barely engages. this only happens when its cold. once the motor warms up it doesnt happen. is there anything i can do to make this not happen or do i need a new clutch? Larry's Shee Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 Do you mean disengauge? What kind of oil are you using? Might be getting thick with the cold weather. Quote
shoopie Posted December 12, 2010 Author Report Posted December 12, 2010 I had some thick stuff in there last week but I changed it and put in some 10w30 clutch saver like 3 days ago but its still happening. Also my kicker is only engaging like half way down so its hard to start because I'm not getting a good full kick. Any suggestions? Quote
BigRed350x Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 Only way you're really going to tell for sure is to pop the clutch cover off and take a look at your clutch and check the adjustments. You could also check out your kick-starter gear and see what's going on there while you have the cover off. Quote
bansheedude55 Posted December 12, 2010 Report Posted December 12, 2010 i personally think its got something to do with the bottom end for the kickstart and ajust your clutch all the way and see what happens... it it works then u need a new clutch same thing happend with mine today but without the kickstart problem the clutch felt like it was just barley grabbin so i went over the cables and everything was good but then i loobed everrything up real good and it works perfect again atleast it feels good it doesnt run yet but atleast now its grabbin, but yea pop the cover off and see whats up... shoopie Posted December 12, 2010 Author Report Posted December 12, 2010 well my front end is out of commission for a while so i have some time to to some investigation in the motor. what am i looking for in the bottom end that would effect the kickstart? Quote

shoopie Posted December 19, 2010 Author Report Posted December 19, 2010 i pulled my clutch cover off and pulled out my clutch. i am wiping and drying the bad oil i put in it off and i will try it out tomorrow. when i was checking out my kickstarter i found that the main kick gear is loose. also the clutch basket was a little loose from the gear. i am not very experienced with the inner workings of motors so i took a couple videos for you guys to check out. tell me if this is bad or acceptable. kicker (sorry the videos kinda shitty. you can kinda see it move towards the end) clutch Quote

You might want to invest in a new basket. The Kick starter gear is perfectly normal no need to change that. One real easy sign of a burnt clutch you'll smell a BBQ burnt scent coming from the dipstick. what do your plates look like? got a pic? do you own a digital callipar? Quote
shoopie Posted December 19, 2010 Author Report Posted December 19, 2010 any way i can fix it without replacing the basket? dont have the cash for a new basket right now. Quote
shoopie Posted December 22, 2010 Author Report Posted December 22, 2010 well i pulled my clutch apart and dried the bad oil off of all the friction and separator plates and put everything back together and its still not disengaging, the plates are all sticking together. i guess i need a new clutch. what kit to you guys recommend? im on a really tight budget so im looking for anything that will work, not necessarily the best. im getting a new clutch basket next week. also what trans oil do you guys recommend? should i stay with my 10w30 clutch saver or should i go to atf type f or belray or something else? n2otoofast4u Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Like wicked asked... Do you own a set of calipers? If you do, take a measurement of a few of the fibers and let us know what they are. That will be the decision if your clutch is junk or not. I think all that fancy oil is a bunch of hog shit personally. We run ATF in all the drag bikes, and have no issues. Just be sure to soak your plates before you put them in, and then change it every once in awhile. If you havent got a basket, let me know. Ive got a fairly good one that Ill send you for free, you just pay shipping. If your fibers are gabage, there are a few different ways you can go. Quote
shoopie Posted December 23, 2010 Author Report Posted December 23, 2010 I dont have a digital one but i can see if i can borrow one from a friend of mine. If i can I will take a reading on the plates this afternoon. I will take that basket if you don't mind. Pm sent Quote
