Lannon Posted December 2, 2010 Report Posted December 2, 2010 I got a 2001 Banshee, it is 100% stock, well this past year I started racing it 1/8 mile up at Bandimere speedway here in Denver, and had a blast, it runs really consistant but would like it to go a little faster! I still run it on the dirt so I want it to be useable on both surfaces and still run good. Can anyone give me suggestions on a build or on what upgrades I should do? Thank you Lannon Quote

Thank you Lannon First off welcome to BHQ! I would start off with pipes, filters, cool head or milled head, timing plate, reeds. Start off with some basic bolt ons like these and see how you like it. MAKE SURE you re-jet with any mods that change your air and fuel flow. If your still wanting more power you can have it ported, bigger carbs, 4Mil...etc. The sky is the limit on these bikes, and just all depends on much $$$ you want to dump in it and what kind of riding your doing. I am totally new to this, so I don't know what kind of pistons to get, how to change the timing or anything like that.. I have built tons of cars, but never an ATV! I don't run in wet areas, its all pretty dry dirt and obviously pavement for the races.. Thank you for your time!! Quote

Porting can be equated to putting in a big cam , EXCEPT you can't take it back out . On the plus side it is cheaper to a certain point to mod a 'shee to go fast(er) . Read a lot in the drag forum to get ideas on what others are doing. Quote

AKheathen Posted December 4, 2010 Report Posted December 4, 2010 well, first, what pipes do you have to start with? x2 on getting with a builder. make a long-term plan, and base upgrades choices on that. for instance, you can have your head worked for cheaper than a cool-head, but it may be better to get a cool-head if you plan on stroking, or changing compression later, ignition, clutch, tranny options, etc........ an override is good for drag, verry good, actually, but there are several different types, and if you are riding off the strip, you could blow it up just from back-loading... BigRed350x Posted December 10, 2010 Report Posted December 10, 2010 Porting is the heart to any setup. Then you just get the carbs, pipes, and bolt-ons to compliment the porting.
