k_allison510 Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 Unloaded it and rode about 2 or 3 miles and it was running fine. About a half mile after that it started spitting and sputtering and then locked up. Got it towed back to camp and then tried to kick it and it wont budge. It had plenty of coolant and the gas was mixed at 40:1 with H1R synthetic. So my main questions are.......what would have caused this and about how much $$ am I looking at to rebuild this thing. I know its hard to estimate since I havent torn it apart yet, but some estimates would be good enough to see if I even want to mess with it. Thanks Quote
banshee67 Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 was it running a little lean? either by your own jetting or was there an air leak that you didnt know about? did you let it warm up properly before taking it out and start ripping on it? those may have cased it to seize. also check your cylinders when you get the chance. depending on how sever it is all you may have to do is hone it and drop in a new set of pistons. also check the crank and make sure it is ok. make sure there is no warping or anything wrong with it. Jereme6655 Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 well....seein as how you said it was runnin and spitting and sputtering makes me think that it started running lean...... and when runnin a 2-stroke lean it will cause the pison to lock up in the cylinder. to do a rebuild it is gonna be about $250 in parts (through a sponsor) and then the bore and honing at a machine shop Quote
k_allison510 Posted October 10, 2010 Author Report Posted October 10, 2010 I have been running the same jets for a while with no issues. I let it warm up idleing and then rode it easy for a while and never really even ripped on it at all today. I went out to the shop after I posted earlier and noticed a small puddle of coolant but could not tell exactly where it came from. Would that have anything to do with it? And also, it was not sputtering until right before it locked up. I mean about 10 seconds give or take, other than that, it appeared to be running fine, but like I said, I never got on it. Was just cruising in 4th or 5th when it all started going to shit. Quote

I locked mine up.. sent my cylinders out turns out there junk... Had a crack threw the intake ports.... Shopp around man... sponsors have great prices on motor work, like porting, boring , honingg.. But there price for parts.. Like pistons and rings.. are a little more then what i been finding .. Right now the 15-20 price difference on the parts is a big deal for me to get her running asap!!!!.So before you go spending all this cash.. Do some searching !! And as always ASK a question!! Only dumb question is the one you dont ask!! And try the shoutbox ... you can find some knowledgeable guys on there if they take a break from spankin off Quote

How many hrs were on the top end? You could have just waited a little to long to do a rebuild!! Quote
Jereme6655 Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 ya i forgot to mention that the rough estimate on the top end rebuild is if everything is okay on the inside and nothing is demolished......catostrophic failures sucks ass Quote
k_allison510 Posted October 10, 2010 Author Report Posted October 10, 2010 I am not sure on the hours. I have put about 15 hours since I got it and the guy I got it from said that it was a fresh rebuild but he has proven to be a lying s.o.b. about some other stuff so theres no telling. Quote
banshee67 Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 well i guess it is time for a rebuild i guess. Quote
Phelps Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 make damn sure you check the condition of the water pump before you put it back together and destroy the new build. Quote

Dude i got a banshee and 4 days later it blew up!!! I didnt even get 15hrs outta it.. Guy said it had 180lbs of compression.. My ass!! I should just tore it apart from the get go.. Cant take many peoples word on anything anymore.. But just rebuilt it right!!! Once i get her rebuilt.. She will be tore apart every winter make sure shes good !!!!!!! Quote
Larry's Shee Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 A lying P.O. ? NO !! How's coolant level in rad? Check that before you start tear down so if something caused the seize you'll be able to narrow it down. Quote
sleeper06 Posted October 10, 2010 Report Posted October 10, 2010 Pressure test before teardown is a must, otherwise your just guessing if it was a leak,It tells you alot Quote
Jereme6655 Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 if your cruising in 5th and say a boost bottle tears your intake then that IS fast enough in the RPMs to totally screw your motor up from a big air-leak.......can be turnin some pretty high R's in 5th.... Quote
J-Madd Posted October 12, 2010 Report Posted October 12, 2010 Pressure test before teardown is a must, otherwise your just guessing if it was a leak,It tells you alot Very good advice. Too often a motor is taken apart; then put back together with new seals, gaskets, etc; so you never know if it was a leak that caused it the first place. Quote
