I was out riding the piss out of my Banshee today in the trails. I was exploring some old Skidoo trails and went deeper and deeper until the trail was so rough that I was bogging in deep mud and pushing the bike more than riding it. The coolant started to boil so I shut her down. I let it cool for about 2 mins and poured cold pond water on the rad tocool it. I stated it back up 30 minutes later and rode it home by road to keep it cool. All seemed ok on the way home but I never pushed it hard. How bad is this? Would this have happened with Engine Ice? I use Water Wetter already but apparently for no good reason.

You need air flow across the radiator no matter what you have in your bike for coolant.I you are running the piss out of your bike with not much air flow it will overheat.I had a buddy wire a computer fan to his low beam headlight wires so when he turned them on the fan came on to help stop it from heating up.

Not trying to bust your thread OP, but the rad fan has been in my mind for awhile. Firebanshee, do you happen to have any more info on the fan? I would like to give that a whirl but am blind when it comes to electrical!

My buddy just used a big fan that goes in a computer tower and put it in the lower big holes on the front rad shroud. You just need to hook up the headlight wire to the red wire on the fan and ground the black wire on the fan, then when you turn on the headlight switch to the low or the high (depends on if you use the green or yellow wire)the fan will come on.

You should try engine ICE. That's what i use here in Arizona. I ride in 110 degree weather with no overheating issues and i ride the shit out of it. A Fan is a good idea though, let us know if you decide to throw a fan and post up the progress.

Engine ice is sweet. I run it and it makes a difference. But without airflow...your done. If your mud bogging with little to no airflow your going to overheat no matter what. If your into digging holes and getting no where fast....buy a 4 stroke...that's what they're best at. :rotflmao:

I cleaned it up and restored the coolant level so that i could ride the piss out of her again today and all is well. No damage. Gonna keep away from the bogs from now on. That computer fan idea has definitely got my attention. I'm gonna look into it. THX
